How do you store your slides?

Do you use ringbinder sleeves, the original cases, other ways? Re: 35mm format.

Also I have them mounted by the lab in plastic Gepe mounts, how does one write on them, do you use a adhesive label? I just want to label them so I know which roll number they are from and which frame number. So it's easier to put them back. Can one just write on them directly with a pen?

What do mean by "original cases" ? The cassettes slides are returned in by industrial labs?

When using slides for slide shows then cassettes that take one or two longitudinal trays seem benefitial (and are the most used form over here). With circular trays the respective cover should be used.
When not using them for shows they either were packed more dense, without tray, in a smaller cassette, or commercial photographers used transparent flexible or stiff sheets to file several slides.

I store mine, unlabeled in their cardboard lab mounts, in ring binder archival sleeves, w/just the year marked on the top of the sleeve.
 
In Carousel trays and metal slide boxes.
 

Gepe is a standard.
I first heard of this at age of 16 years as I have some training weeks at a industrieal photograper.
He said : "We just only use GePe - it is the best " So I did after I experimented with different other brands.

Comming to write on plastic mounts.
I would not do this - because your numeric method may change in some month/weeks.
If you want to do it use waterresistent markers.
I use paper labels and write on them.

Both methods may produce gasses that can interact with your films and may reduce live time of your slides.
But I would not be not so afraid because of lots of more relavante dangerous impacts from other issues while storage.

I use gepe glassless mounts. I started with the 3mm ones, but switched to 2mm as my collection is growing and they take too much space while in storage. The 3mm ones do no fit tightly in any kind of slide pages i tried. The pouch engulfs the mounts in a somewhat open state and dust eventually gets in. 2mm mounts fit more tightly and thus dust is less of a problem.

For data, i just stick a small white label on the white side of the mount.

For storage i currently use small boxes that usually hold 20-30 slides depending on their size. I found that in this way slides stay completely dust free. However i think i will have to switch to slide pages because after a certain amount of slides, box storage and viewing will become increasingly uncomfortable.

A while ago i managed to get a peculiar type of slide pages that has been out of production for quite some time. Each "flipper" holds 5 slides, and each pouch is open from the top and bottom so they can be fully cleaned easily by inserting a brush or q-tip. Each page holds 4 "flippers" and the page opening closes well to keep dust off. I think it is great. Even if dust gets in the page, the "flipper" keeps it off the slides The brand was Hama. OCD to the fullest

In the past (1980-2014): Logan metal slide storage boxes. Since 2014: Archival Methods Slide Storage System (Six trays inside a master case).
