Hi Guys n Gals!
Do you sell your prints?
How do you do it?
I just started my website.. but just having a website doesn't automatically draw buyers.
Do you sell on ebay? etsy? smugmug? -Or do you try to draw buyers to your site?

Its hard to get started these days, with so much good photography already out there. And it seems there isn't much of a market these days for prints.

Thanks for any advice!

A friend of mine took part in a gallery exhibition some time ago and he did sell some prints. At least enough to pay the rent for the gallery. He also has a website but most of his work he sold on the exhibition. I think letting people have a first-hand look at your work might do best, especially with traditional prints that never look as great on the web as they do in the real world.

I would go to local art-markets or cultural festivals were artists can join with stands.
Get together with other photographers and rent a space for a weekend, but then you yourselves must do clever advertizing of your event.

it all depends ...

sometimes i sell directly to people i know, or know of, or their friends ..
sometimes i ask a café if they allow local people to put things on their walls ( and i might sell there )
sometimes i might be in a group showing with other people at a larger gallery venue
i have sold off of ebay too, but these days i have a selling page / storefront on imagekind.com, and i have done pretty well.
you have to do all your own advertising, but that is par the course no matter what you do...

I sell at a local small town annual art fair, occasional group exhibits, and to people that have seen my photos over several decades. It is not profitable. I also do pro bono digital sports photography for the local school. For economy and efficiency, most of my prints are 10x14 inches, matted to 16x20, and available either unframed or in metal frames. Inexpensive unmounted 8.5x11 prints are also popular. Printing on an Epson 3800 and buying frames and pre-cut mats in quantity is efficient and keeps quality up and cost down.

I wonder of the people that put their pictures up in hotels and hospitals make many sales?

Photography is a hobby for me, so I don't worry about selling prints, not that anyone would want to buy them anyway.
