How do you get a Nikon F eyepiece magnifier to stay in the "UP" position?

I got mine new a thousand years ago, but it's always been useless because it always flops down no matter how hard I tighten it. Thanks

I believe there is a small knurled knob at the end of the hinge pin that can be tightened to hold the magnifier up.

Yes, but I tighten it as hard as I can & it still flops down.
