How best to mount Hasselblad 501CM to Manfortto Quick Release Tripod mount?

Hi

I have a Manfrotto 055PROB tripod with 486RC2 swivel head with it's quick release plate.



I have a Hasselblad 501CM.

The Blad can be screwed to the quick release plate, but it's not terrible stable, especially with a 150mm lens.



How are others mounting their Blads to such plates? I read about "Quick Release Hasslelbad plates" but I'm not sure they would suit my situation?

I have a different Manfrotto head than yours, same tripod, and my Hasse mounts solidly to the quick release plate and is quite solid even with the 150 on it. I had to get an insert for the bottom of the Hasselblad body to step it down for the normal tripod bolt. Maybe your adapter in the base of the camera isn't screwed in tightly enough.


Just checked. I have a 498RC2 ball head on mine. Nice solid head by the way.

I have the same head as yours and mount mine using the quick release plate with no problems. I just make sure that the small brass lever locks the large lever before I let go of the camera.

There are a number of different Manfrotto Quick Release plate styles (some larger than others) and some of the heads are available in different versions - each with a different plate.

Which one do you have?

that I bought when the one that came with my tripod was stolen with my Nikon F5 (I had detached the camera and plate from tripod when it was stolen).

I use a 460MG head on my 055. It has a QR plate similar to yours. When I mounted my Bronica SQAm on it last week, it was quite loose and the safety lock didn't seem to work. The camera fell off at one point, but I managed to catch it. The solution was to mount the camera with plate attached to the head, then push the big locking lever tight. The camera should then be secure, and the small brass lock can be engaged. I had wrongly assumed that the plate engage securely simply by attaching it to the head. Alex

Worry not folks - I have bought the proper one, as originally I was supposed to do. When a lot of my stuff got stolen 18 months ago, I was in a bit of blind panic regarding replacing stuff and I think I just ordered (by mistake) the cheapest and most unsuitable plate for my tripod head!

The Bogen one is essentially the same as the Manfrotto one - just a slightly older version.

Manfrotto is distributed in the USA by Bogen, and some/most of the product is labelled Bogen.

I put a thinner bottom plate on my hasselblad, seems to screw in better.

I have the same head and plates, just screw it normally and that's it. I have used it with anything up to a 250mm and haven't had any problems however I make sure the whole thing is screwed on tightly and that the clamp on the head is tight.

Saying that, I am looking to replace the 486 head as it is not the most secure or easy to use with heavy setups like the 'blad.
