Silverfast software is using transparent IT8 targets (ISO 12641) to calibrate scanners. The targets are produced by LaserSoft Imaging themselves and are also available from Wolfgang Faust (http://www.targets.coloraid.de/) and other sources. The targets are printed on transparency film. Each target contains several hundred colour patches that are measured either individually for every sample or for each production batch. For Wolfgang Faust's targets the quantities include XYZ and LAB coordinates and optical densities (Status-A? and visible spectrum?). The size of each colour patch on a 35 mm target is tiny and there are several hundreds of them to be measured.
How is this done?
Is it possible to obtain calibrated measurements traceable to a relevant national standard?
