Horseman/Topcon lenses

I have the VH-R, and in that system (rather than on your ER-1) you have only a single solenoid and remove-and-reattach it to each lens. In your ER-1 system, as you know, every lens has its own solenoid.

I'm just running the ER lenses on my VH-r. I came across a good deal on the camera and it had some lenses with it already, so I'm just putting together the rest of the kit between buying lenses and backs for my ETRSi kit.

Ok, I did see the ER lenses attached to the VH-R in the 1988 catalog (after they discontinued the non-ER lenses). But I wasn't sure how one would fire the shutter but on the next page of the catalog they show someone firing the shutter by reaching around to the lever with their finger.

You may have noticed the guide on the right of the viewfinder assembly? That is for the "Speical" Horseman cable release, it slides in there and you can use your thumb on the plunger. But that cable release won't fit the ER lenses (unless you can remove the solenoid?).

Maybe you have another way of firing those lenses on the VH-R?

I guess I'm not following? The top of the solenoid on the ER lenses are threaded. Why wouldn't one just use a threaded cable release in there?

Up until now I've just been manually firing them with my finger but would prefer a cable. That was my question ... On the ER is there a proprietary thread or will a standard threaded release work?

I feel like we may be on two different pages here.

Also, my VH-r DOES have the mount for the "special" horseman release. But even if I could make it work, I would prefer the mount be floating rather than attached. Having to push on the body to take a shot would mean I may as well save time and money and just keep using my finger.

Here is a pic of the top of my 105/f5.6 lens. Note threaded portion. This is what I am asking about. I was under the impression that this is a specific thread for horseman, but I could be mistaken.

I found some more info in my 1988 catalog. They had 3 cable releases

1) Standard tapered tip.
2) Special that fit on side of camera and attached to NON-ER lenses
3) Special that fit on side of camera and attached to ER lenses (I presume with the standard tapered tip).

So yeah, it looks like the ER lens setup will just use a standard tapered release for sure then. That's the fun thing about owning a relatively uncommon camera. All the sleuth work needed to find out what works and what doesn't, etc.

So the little release adapter, I'm seeing what those are.

If someone needed some I could probably whip a few up. I don't need them, and I don't think there's probably any market for them since these cameras are pretty much uncommon, but they would be a really easy thing to make on a turning center.

If you have 1 or 2 spare I would love to buy some. I have two lenses that don't take any normal cable releases.

What are you using for a battery in the grip? I just bought a whole kit and the grip requires a 22.5V battery and I can't locate a replacement or any info on it. The standard cable release works, but blocks the RF more than I care for. Any help is greatly appreciated.
