this belongs to some "lounge" off-topic sub-forum, which i don't see here...

so, I took few days vacation, drove to Nordland, Lofoten to get some fresh air (I got plenty...) and take pictures around. Had the Horseman-985 with two 6x9 backs, 3 lenses, the 4x5 extender with grafmatics and some regular holders.
Every day someone stopped me to ask what was the camera, and some grabbed they DSLR or their phone to take a shot of me holding the camera....
Yesterday on the way back I stopped in Røros and some local teenager asked me if I could take a picture of him and send ... to his mobile phone ...
I told this is film, and he "how long time does it take before you can send?" .. me, speaking slowly: this is a roll of film, drive back home, process it with some liquid chemicals to a negative then can develop to paper or scan and digitalize... he: "huh oh errr" ....

Offer to take a crummy shot with their phone though the viewfinder / ground glass... and their wallet. :ninja:

My boys took a friend along on a trip to the river. I photographed the four of them jumping off a rock into the water. She rushed up to me to see the image on my Rolleicord!

Sure-- I could, if I wanted, use the Canon app with my EOS 90D, and then once the image is on my phone, I could resize/send to someone else.

The digital point and shoots, almost certainly, but I have no experience.

Modern cameras have wifi and bluetooth, but they're not really designed to play nice with smartphones.

Yup. My Nikon had a little adapter and an app that I could use to pull the image to my phone, then send on. My Pentax had it with a specialized SD card that had a wi-fi access point built in. This was 5-7 years ago, I'm sure today they can probably post directly to instagram.

I just wondered because my wife has both a digital Nikon SLR and a cellphone. I asked her if the digital files from the Nikon SLR can put transferred to the iPhone. So, we tried. The Nikon needs to be connected to her computer (not mine) and the images in question downloaded to her hard disk through the USB cable. Then the iPhone needs to be connected to the same computer with a separate USB cord and an application called iTunes (yes really!) is needed to move the file to the phone. It was not easy because when we tried it it asked if we wanted to erase everything on the iPhone to move the file.

I took pictures of my nephew with my Rolleiflex and then he asked "can I see?" I replied that it's film and that I had to develope it first, and he said "oh, yeah, film". He was maybe five years old back then, but I had explained how my cameras work.

My nephews and nieces have grown up seeing my cameras so they don't think of them as "old" and "cool", but only as cameras. Even the bigger ones with bellows.

Do they however, think of you as being "old" and "cool"?
Or even better, "young" and "cool"?

There are ways of doing this (excuse the digression). It can range from difficult to easy depending on the hardware and the methods. One way to do it is through a lightning to USB adapter (like this: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD821AM/A/lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter ) and the camera's USB cord.

More digression: itunes is the application on your computer that is used to back up and update the phone, so you should figure out how to use the computer to back up the phone without erasing everything. The issue is probably that you have some kind of "automatically sync photos and music" setting checked.

I have Nikon Snapbridge app my dslr dumps lower res jpegs on my phone via Bluetooth or some voodoo. The camera has to stay on and phone near the camera. I was hammering away at a nest of baby Robins not thinking, I had at least 300 shots of the little things on my phone, great :wondering:

talking af phones, earlier same day to Røros, I stopped along the road to shot some unusual building. A neighbour came to me, same, asked about the camera, and wanted me to walk over with him advice his wife who thinks of buying a camera. Well I told I am no specialist just a guy who enjoys taking pictures, but he insisted quite, was friendly anyway. They were around 50. So i ask the wife "do you want to go back to film?" she "no! I want to buy digital" me "but then aren't you already using some kind of digital camera?" her, like I was asking something silly "I use the phone!" .... it reminded me of sometime last year, I saw a Petri 7S 35mm fixed-lens RF sold for the price of a beer on local ads, went to pick it and it was a retired guy. Me :" so you no longer shot film?" he: "hell no since a while. Why bother, I have a nice phone" ...

otherwise this Horseman triggered mostly interesting conversations, people genuinely curious, some having some idea other happy to learn about the perspective correction capabilities.

often also the camera gave me some kind of unwanted status, ie. people taking a picture, with their phone..., of what I did shot after I was done. Others asking me to take a shot of them with ... their phone and once a guy with one of these shiny nice expensive Fuji-X asking me "please advice me how to take good pictures" ...:wondering:

I would guess all new DSLRs have app which you can use to transfer. At least most of them have this feature. Fujifilm & GoPro makes the camera as WiFi hotspot to speed up the transfer.

But this is in wrong forum and maybe this belongs to lounge ..

This is already classic. First time a kid tried to peek back my camera was about 2005'ish and it was funny because I didn't understand what she (age 5 maybe?) was looking behind the camera. It took me a moment..

its best to use being out and about as an educational tool for people that don't know what film is or how it works...
should have just gotten the person's phone # / email address and said when you make the prints ( in a few days or a week or whatever ) you will send a copy.
I've done that a handful of times, and usually the reply is that they really liked the photo and thanks ...

i offered but the kid wasn't interested, he really was completely the instant mobile/"social" network attitude. But it happened at other occasions that I mailed a high quality scan.

A few years ago a similar thread, somebody related a similar story, except it ended with the little kid saying, "That's dumb", and walking away.

In fairness, it is dumb. We're fine with it, and there's nothing wrong with us for being fine with it, but it's dumb.

I prefer less practical to "dumb"
