Welcome from Flanders Fields, and what is (are) Applied linguistics, is this what we call over here 'Filiologie'?

Hi leicam5,

Applied Linguistics is a relatively new branch of linguistics that's interdisciplinary in nature, combining several fields like psychology, second language acquisition, pedagogy, etc. It's basically a study of how people acquire second languages and how to teach them.

Philology has more of a literary and historical background to it.

You are a pentapentaxian or quasqui-hecto-taxian.
