In another life, I purchased a great deal of camera equipment by mail order from Hong Kong. This in the late 60's and it was always interesting when you fetch your parcel from the post office. You would handle the customs thing and then unwrap the wood box to find the item in perfect condition. Is anybody still doing mail order out of Hong Kong? If so, what has your experience been? I bought a camera from HK Supplies last year, great people to do business with. Very prompt with e-mails and let me know when they mailed it out. Used a wire transfer from my bank to theirs. Would do business with them again. No wooden box, but the camera was very well wrapped. Very pleasant experience and the price was very good compared with here.

Hi,
I bought several items in HK, from lens hood to filters, lenses and other accessories. Never experienced any problem. Dispatch was better handled and quicker than from some EU shops (I live in Belgium).
I'll visit HK in July thus will nose around for good bargains. A nikon d300 new sells for 1000 euro, that's 30% off EU price.

I've bought a few filters from an e-bay sellers in both Hong Kong and mainland China. Transactions have been seamless.

I've also bought a few fountain pens (another passion) from sellers in China. Most of these transactions have gone smoothly, but I did have one instance in which the seller's description of the pen was inexact, and while the seller agreed to supply another pen (the shipping charge was MUCH greater than the selling price), the pen he supplied to address the problem still didn't match his description.

So my conclusion is that there is at least a potential for misunderstanding - a combination of language differences and cultural differences.

Hong Kong purchase

Recently purchased a 120 film holder. Was as nice as advertised. No problems and I was rather surprised as to how quickly it arrived in Florida.

I ordered a zero image from HK this past Wed night at 11:30p.m. EST and it arrived 3 days later!
