Homebrew Telecine for 16mm movie film?

Hello all.

I've recently seen some interesting things with regards to the Lomokino. Apparantly they have a way to scan the film and digitize it and it automatically puts itself into a movie.

They even have a way to do it with a smartphone.

I was wondering if anyone has used this device with 16mm film. Will it just sit smaller in the holder used to digitize the film?

Will the same scanning app used for the lomo camera also digitize a smaller film?


Also, does anyone know of any other good way to scan 100 foot rolls of 16mm film and digitize it?

Try the forum at filmshooting.com , which is kind of the APUG (or maybe DPUG) of small-gauge cinematography for information on this and links to websites that show different setups. The simplest method is to project the film and shoot off a screen, though I've tried it and it has inherent alignment problems.

The way they made the lomokino iPhone adapter seems so effective (from youtube videos) seems so effective it'd be a shame not to be able to do it with more advanced cameras.

This is by scanning the film in strips on a flatbed scanner and sequencing the frames in a videoediting program, isn't it? I think people were doing that before the Lomokino. There are other approaches involving a synched projector and a camera.
