history-buffs, sorry for another dektol thread

i was poking around in google books last night
and found a fun 1946 photography magazine
where dektol was introduced

i know some folks say dektol + d72 interchangeably ... ( aside from some minor ingredients they are very much the same )
was d72 around for 20-30? years, they just decided to release it to the photography crazy general public in a ready to mix can ...
( and it was really nothing new at all ) ..
