Yeah - thats amazing - a new slide projector with brand new technology hipster design and to real less costs!
$ 200,- / $ 325,-

This smart machine you may also operate via IPhone.

It has a funky hipster design in different colors.

AND IT IS CABLELESS

Is it a dream ? No friends - it is a real
question. Would such slide machine have a target group today?

Would it be the chance today to create a hype (with new Kodak Ektachrome) to revival E6 slide projection?

What would you like ? Is it from interist
to you : A smart cableless batterie powered machine ?

How to create a real hype with E6 ?

Hipsters mostly buy stuff wich is smart/brand new - and a bit strange.

What is your oppinon to such issue -
would you buy a lomo projector in nice colors with plastic chassis and new advanced features to less costs?

And (more relevant) would you expect others who aren't involved in film photography would like to find such projector "hipster" ?

A must have to unexpected target group wich will also buy E6 films then?

If we just would know the future ?

If it has a decent lens, I would be interested.
Although there are tons of old 35mm slide projectors out there, a new machine that runs cool and is energy efficient would be welcome.
When looking at older projectors, I often wonder how hard (and expensive) it is to obtain replacement bulbs.
In general, I prefer "functional" over "hipster".

An LED slide projector sounds like a great idea. Less heat and whiter light than what you'd get from the old style projectors. As far as battery powered goes, I don't find that as appealing. But I'm not against that idea either. And I could see how that would appeal to other people. Being able to easily project on the side of a building might have some interest in some circles. I don't care about plastic. Everything is made out of plastic these days, and a lot of these plastic devices are really well made. So what it's made out of doesn't tell me how well it's designed or how long it's gonna last.

The real issue is will it be able to compete against all of these older projectors on the used market. Will the quality be comparable? Will the optics stand up to the old projectors? Will the light be as bright? If so, then having one that doesn't have the heat issues and is portable could find it's own little niche in the market.

Also, quit using the word "hipster". It's almost 2018. Using that word just makes you sound really old and out of touch, plus kind of condescending.

I (obviously) use film cameras, have a beard, appreciate decent coffee and food, own many vinyl records and occasionally sport a man-bun....

Last week I bought a mint boxed Leica Pradovit P150 for £10. So, no.

Same here - I have two working P150, so there is no need for another 35mm projector. I would like to have a 6x7 though ...

yes, and it is not even gold plated.

If you simply replace the quart lamp in the Kodak Ektapro line of projectors with a LED lamp of at least equal brightness, change its interface from RS-232 to USB or ethernet then I consider it. I wouldn't care for hipster stuff.

Theo - the issue/idea with a factory made new slide projector is not to be against good,cheap used stuff.
I would also not need a new hipster machine - because one of the projectors I own is this one here :

Well - and Rolleivision is INDEED "hipster" enought - to me....!
But this company still not exist any more.
Other great companys mentioned also here made great projectors but all of these projectors have a technology "state of the art" 1985 - 1995
The Rollei from above is one of the very latest improvements I know.
As you stated the characteristic of the lens is very important.
So many Leica projectors have still a good image (decades after production).
But all these fine companies cancelt their
research while the 80th because the big "boom" with slide projection (from the 70th) came to an end a decade later.
To be faire one have to state there was also no need to further research because
the latest advanced technology from the midt 80th was just perfect.
To the time Agfa introduced their CS mout system in 35mm.
As I remember the latest improvement to slides in general.
From this point - the time was frozen.

But today we are in business with (meanwhile cheaper) total different technology.

Remember LED lighting - you can save energy - but the more advantage is you will need much less energy that it is practice to work with batteries.
Coming to remote controls : Many old projectors work with cable control.
The last inovation was wireless remote.
To that time - behind - very expensive via infrared remote (expensive state of the art in 1983 !!!)
Today one would solve this via wireless wlan or bluetooth (both are technology for less).
So you will need no remote control because you can use you cellphone - most people have it today.

The word is now so grossly overused that it has lost what little relevance it may have had, and it just sounds condescending and petty.

Yes - that would be a bit expensive to a DIY solution from kickstarter.
But my idea isn't in this direction.
Mobile projection for outdoor events is a so very smal niche - there should be no other way as here with a DIY kit - (thanks for the link - by the way).
My idea is a simple use at home - but cableless because of low energy via led.
But the more difference is a magazine based projection - with "multi magazine use "
like this fine stuff here :

Notice : The first 2 are scanning machines but never mind about it is just to demonstrate a type (as example) of a system wich is able to project with different types of magazines in 35mm.

But you likely would not run around with an Ektapro.

When I watch my slides I don't run around. I am in my own darken room just for the purpose. And yeah, I don't show my slides to others so no slide show either. But of course it's me not for a young hispter.

So basically you can buy any vintage projector and fit an LED inside. It should fit as you can remove the old lamp and cooling - there should be enough space. Running it on an app and a battery are nice features, but sources of endless problems and will increase the price and the use of the support hotline.

Probably you wouldn't sell much, there are simply too many working ones in the bay and an app will scare away most current slide film photographers - who would like stay within their current system anyway.
