Hippie Straps

They were mentioned a few times here ..... (there was a url link here which no longer exists) .....
So i thought i would ask:
Do many of you guys use a Hippie Strap.?
I own 4 or 5 of the "originals" and i also bought a few (from Ebay) of the modern day equivalents that are great for the price.
I like the width and the length of Hippie Straps. I wear my camera fairly low, and across my body, so the weight is on my shoulder, and not the back of my neck.
Anyway.....what say APUG, do you Like/Use a Hippie Strap.?

they're a bit broader than I care for, and the ones I have all seem to have these dorky metal swivel hook/clips that are pretty big. I'll see if I can find one to post a pic of.

The OP linked to a "digital camera strap on classic film cameras". I don't get the point.

I know a guy who had in the 70s his Rollei 35 hanging from his neck at a parcel cord.
I consider this quite hippie...

Otherwise I think of painted of embroided straps.
Maybe he thinks of those industrial straps with ornaments woven in.

The Persian Rug comment was classic.
I said the straps were "mentioned" in the link. Go down 3 or 4 and you will see them talked about a few times.
The new straps i bought from Ebay/China are pretty nice. Not quite as Hippie-ish, but similar. They are not quite as wide as the older straps if that is of interest to anybody.

The modern ones are better, they lack the damaging hardware of the 1970s versions. The old ones could be used as a climbing harness or to keep the mail coach horses in line, but looked pretty silly with a Pentax MX on the end.

No it think parcel cord is more bohemian than hippie, although hippies could be quite bohemian.

I got a bile pile of hippie straps, some were my own from the 70s.

I wouldn't be seen dead with one, I like plain black Domke 2" wide Gripper Straps.

Not a fan. I use Dead Link Removed, specifically the wrist straps that screw into the tripod mount since I prefer a hand grip over shoulder. Since they're leather though they're fashion-accessory-like just like the hippie straps, but not as... hippie.

I have one. I wouldn't use it with a real heavy camera, but it's kinda fun for my 1970s-vintage Nikons.

I don't use them anymore, I have them all hanging on the wall side by side like a tapestry, they look great when illuminated by my lava lamp.

I've probably thrown a couple dozen of them away that were part of kits I bought. Typically they have huge camera destroying clips and make me look more like an old fart than my use of a camera without a strap. Looking good is important! Bill Barber

In the 1970s not only did I have a camera strap like that, I also had a guitar strap with a similar pattern.

I used and still use Hippy straps for my film bodies and full frame digital cameras, just and hold over from my time as a PJ, I like a wide strap when I shot with 2 and some times 3 cameras and was my feet for up to 12 hours.

That said, I agree that Domke Grippers are great, too.

For those still unsure, these are "hippie straps." Not clunky heave swivel clips and buckles.

I use hippie straps, they make me smile and bring back good memories. I've heard complaints about them damaging the finish on cameras but that doesn't bother me. Some of them have a leather flap to keep the clip from damaging the cameras finish.

I have a Bobby Lee "hippie" strap on my Yashica Electro. It isn't the same one Peter Parker had on his though.
If you have used one of the old Pentax boot-lace straps, you can appreciate how the "hippie" strap is an improvement.

I probably have one around here somewhere because it was on my dad's Konica (which I've inherited / gotten stuck with). I didn't like it because the buckle always ended up digging into my neck somewhere. I think the strap is blues and white on black.
