Contemplating a film camera for a high school graduation gift for young man headed of to college. He will be studying video production or some such field. He does a lot of digital work and for a kid I think does well. He has expressed some interest in learning film and b and w processes.
So this leads to the question. What camera would you recommend for an eighteen year old? If you have a specific recommendation I would appreciate a specific source, perhaps of one cla'ed and/or restored and ready to go. By restoration I refer to functional, not cosmetic issues. My graduation gift in 1979 was an OM1.
At school we had access yashica tlr. What about a vintage folder? I like my bessa II. I gave my daughter a certo six. I have a couple c400 in the basement--when they show up on Craigslist for next to nothing I feel obligated to give them a home. I am leaning toward medium format or 4x5. He would have access to darkroom as long as he is dating my daughter where he could do up to 8x10. I was really think yashica tlr or mamiya c330. Comments welcome.
