Hi Guys- I was wondering if anyone happens to know of any company still making high quality shutter release that are the kind with the air bulb on the end. All of the usual places seem to be selling the same one under their name that is very low quality and has even stripped one of my cameras!

Thanks,

Patrick

I use Hama out of Japan and Kaiser out of Germany.

I highly doubt you set your standards higher than myself or that you view your work any more significant than I do my own.

I use both of the above products for critical work that I invest many many hours producing.

I expect and demand excellence and both of the above have delivered for me flawlessly.

I had picked up what was supposed to be a Kaiser cable release and what I got one in a Kaiser box but was really one of the cheap Hamma ones so I sent it back. They don't come looking like the photographs on the B&H website.

I don't remember the brand I have bought but the problem I ran into was the bulb breaking down and leaking. Then I got a can of "Dipit" though apparently now it is called Plastidip:

I dipped the new ball in red plastidip and it is still working well with no leaks.

The air bulb release I bought from Freestyle has super cheap threads. I'm afraid to use it on some of my cameras because it seems like it's going to strip the soft brass.

Do you know where I can find one John?

you have to google the brand
i don't know if they are still being made
or not .. i got mine years ago from a company in
chicago, after being frustrated with the plastic 20' air bulb releases
sold at the major stores in nyc and boston. they were really cheap
and didn't last ... they look nice, but they aren't as nice as they look.
the degroff cylinders that come up on ebay, even the old ones are very nice.
the old ones are etched brass, very ornate ... they just need to be dusted
with graphite from what i understand and they will last another 100 years.
there is one on ebay now, but it looks like it is missing something,
you might contact the seller and see if it is complete in in perfect working condition before
you buy it ...
