This person scammed me. See warning post I put in classifieds. Oh well, just learnt a valuable lesson.

If the classifieds were hidden from people until they've been active members for a reasonable minimum amount of time, it would be virtually impossible to be scammed in this way.

Didn't it use to be like that? 30 days or something?

Sean argues that the classifieds are a main thing to make people find Photrio.

Well, it's certainly helping the scammers to find Photrio. If nothing is going to be done about it, then we need to be vigilant for ourselves and each other.

During the last weeks Matt warned repeatedly about scammers. And advised to make deals with members one knows from the forum.

As I see matters, it's been like that for a few years now, Andrew. Unless we change the rules it will remain that way. It is clear to me that the effort and cost of making it more difficult for scammers to operate is deemed to be just too great in terms of effort and cost to Photrio

Yes when alerted the mods will take action but the cost of either a change in the rules or employing a form of policing is just too great That is not meant as a veiled criticism of where we are but is meant as a statement of fact as I see it

It is down to each potential buyer to take care of himself It is "caveat emptor" writ large

Why not simply delete the account and postings. Although it may be true, the branding of a username with “*scammer*” shows a real lack of maturity and should be beneath the dignity of Photrio. Apparently not, though.

Feel free to feel however you desire. Just offering my opinion…

The advantage of changing the user name is that it updates every single pre-banning Conversation entry - between the parties - all at once.
So it is something that increases slightly the chances of potential victims being notified if they don't notice these threads.

FWIW, the place-keeper showing above is the result of the type of ban currently in place. It relates to an attempt to post that would never have had a chance to get to the forum itself without first being reviewed by a Moderator and then manually approved.

That approval is never going to happen!
