Love2Live

Hi there l'm new to this forum.

I want to ask about jammed leaf shutters on two of my Hasselblad lenses.

I don't see a way to post on the forums, l can't find the create post button on other forums, please can you allow me to do so.

Re: the title of my post, l want to say hi but l find it hard not add that l just want to talk about technicalities and don't want to engage any user hierarchy predicated on forum ennui (you know?) (l had this issue on dpreview - where they wanted to me to avoid repairing old lenses, presumably they wanted me to buy new lensees - and another forum whose name l forgot).

Thanks in advance, all

I would send it for a CLA.

I would send it for a CLA.

Thank you for the response. "Pay someone else to do it" is probably the most sane option but let's put it another way: what would that "someone else" do?

If you can get your head around that. If not, please don't worry about it.

hey! good to see you here
not sure if you saw this but >>> hasselblad shutter repair manual >>> https://dickwernerhassystore.com/hasselblad-lens-shutter-repair-manual
this guy has manuals for the camera bodies and film backs and lots of other stuff too.
anyways, the manual costs 50$ and then you need to buy the tools probably and cross your fingers and toes if you have never repaired a jammed shutter
that you won't damage it while repairing it. i sometimes think things seem ez to fix but then you start the strip down and get this sinking feeling ...
not quite the same but i have a english rod brake 3speed bike from IDK the 1950s with a sturmey archer hub. i found some guy on the you tube who stripped one down
and re-assembled it and just before i started to dissassemble mine i realized there are like 100 tiny little parts and i have no clue what i am doing !

my guess is it might be best to find a junk broken jammed lens to play with first before you take yours that you like apart, you know, a guinea pig and all that

have fun !

john

ps no need to buy a new lens, but sending it out might cost 100$

@jnantz

Thank you dude, on the dedicated thread here: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threa...lblad-does-not-even-fire.168256/#post-2188855
somebody gave another video. I really want to go via the lens mount surface, l wonder if that would be a better way.

That guy's videos are terrifying. It's put me off.

Therefore, thanks also for the $100 ballpark figure, it helps a lot for planning my strategy.

These lenses sort of are my guinea pig lenses actually, but very expensive guinea pigs. I mean, they've got fatal flaws, so, they need $100 thrown at them either way. So l thought why not tinker first, before passing it over to a prodigy.

I pointed out a different option. You are free to choose what you want to do.

...

That "someone else" would use about 20-30 years of experience and specialized tools to know what's wrong and fix the problem.

Sorry if that sounds sarcastic - I really don't mean it that way - it's just a simple and honest answer.

If you want to disassemble the lens and study it on your own, attempt a repair based on what you discover on the net, I won't discourage you or fault you. I'm an engineer, so I share your inquisitiveness and desire to fix things oneself. There are fewer and fewer people who are able to repair aging cameras and lenses. People such as David Odess, Sover Wong, Youxin Ye, and Harry Fleenor, to name a few, are in high demand. I can work on simple SLRs like Pentaxes, but I'll send my Hasselblads off for CLAs.

Best regards.

Message to all:

My aim: fix a lens.

Failing that: send lens to a man that will fix it

Either way though, the problem is ... how to fix lens

The relevant topic is here: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threa...lblad-does-not-even-fire.168256/#post-2188855

Thank you

P.S Theo, l stopped reading at "Sorry if this sounds sarcastic" ... l will NOT be derailed by a hierarchy of bored regulars. Please keep it about tech or don't bother, l shall live without your remarks. Seriously, don't.
