Hello, I'm from Oneonta, NY (by Cooperstown, baseball fans know...). I've been doing digital for some years, but recently decided to go back to what I grew up with....film. I'm a learner. I'm here b/c I'm hoping to get good advice from peole who know a lot more than I do, b/c I want to become really good at film photography. So if it seems like I'm asking basic questions, please bear with me. They'll become less basic with time. Anyway, thanks!

Welcome!
Apug is meant for aficionados of film based photography, both newbies and sages. So feel free to ask your questions.

Hans

Welcome from another newbie. I can say that since the day I joined I have learned so much. And understood how much more is there to know :D

Hi rafalweb, welcome from Hawaii. I'm sure you will enjoy this site, and you can learn a lot, and meet a lot of good people.

Welcome. There must be thousands of years of experience here and all of of freely given. Some of the sages must be into three figures worth of experience in terms of years! Others of us, myself included, started too late to make it to sages. However I have made it to sags - only one letter less. Well that's what the mirror says every morning. My prints are glossy but my skin's more like stipple. I wonder if toning would help?.

Well, a heartfelt welcome to the group. I hope we will all be open-earred and helpful to you.

Thnak you for all the great replies. I feel welcome already.......

Hi, and welcome to APUG. I'm mostly a lurker around here but have learned tons from all the good people here. I was also digital but since making the move to film have really come to love the whole analog process.
I was born in Oneonta and spent much of my childhood living in Laurens. I also had an Aunt in Cooperstown so I'm familiar with that area as well. It's a beautiful part of the country and one that I hope to get a chance to revisit some day. I'd love to see photos of the area if and when you share some.

Hi,

Welcome from Tucson (right now) and NYC and Copake,NY (depending...).

My wife and I finally got to visit C-town this past August.

Have some nice Velvia 50 shots from the waterfront - but, alas, they are in NYC and I'm in AZ right now.

You'll have a lot of fun here - this IS the film site on the web!

Hi, Rafael

Never been to C-Town but spent a lot of time around Poughkeepsie and Kingston. Beautiful country up there. I'm also a newb, just started yesterday and have been heartily welcomed. Seem like nice people here, or else they want our chemicals and film! I've been teaching basic photo classes here in Columbia, SC. and have found two books very helpful; 1) The Camera Book, M. J. Langford, pub by ZD Publishing. This is the one I find most helpful in preparing my classes asit has lots of drawings, charts, and photos to help. I copy some of them and use a projector to share with the classes. 2) The New Encyclopedia Of Photography, Mark Edwards, pub Gallery Books. These two overlap in some areas but I find that one may have a better presentation on some things than the other.

I just bought about 75 books which I got on eBay.I did a search on "books, photography" under "non fiction" I also did a search on "photography books" also under non fiction. I found scores of them and could have bought them all, well I couldn't but had I the gelt I might have done. A lot of temptation there.

Anyhoo if you get either or both of those books and have a problem I can get mine and address it with you. Be glad to help you or anyone else if I can.

Good luck with your new path.
