Hi everybody!
I first "learned" photography in the 70s (read: I was very bad at it) in the 80s I was giving an old Yashica SLR and got a little bit better. When digital came about I left analog film behind like most others.
When Covid shut everything down I "found" my old film cameras which were a bunch of pre 1960 620 format medium format because when I was in college I was poor and only got stuff others didn't want anymore.
I've been really enjoying shooting and developing film again. I've even convinced my spouse that I need to build a darkroom in the basement so I can make prints again.
I love TLRs and old Folders I have a few 135s but they don't see as much use.

After being away from film for so long I still find it magical when I open the tank and see images on the roll.
I hope you get your darkroom soon, I think the only reason I get to build one in the basement is because I have two enlargers sitting in the living room in the way. lol

Welcome! Building a darkroom is a great idea, making prints is wonderful! And getting started is not a huge operation, you just need a room that can be darkened, ideally running water, and the simple tools of the trade!

right now I have four Kodak Tourist folders two of them have the 105mm f4.5 lens one has a 100mm f8.8 and the last one has the bottom of the line Kodet lens. (guess which one looks the prettiest because it sits on the shelf most of the time.)
I also have an Argus Argoflex EF TLR which I super love but I'd put it down if I ever manage to get an Yashica Mat.
Then for 135 I have a Minolta x-370 with a stupid big collection of glass for it and then I have a 1965 Zorki 4 rangefinder that's still working great that I got back when I thought I wanted a Leica M3 and my tuition bills said no.
Oh! I almost forgot I also have a Kodak Vest Pocket Autographic that I shoot whenever I can bring myself to pay $25 for a roll of 127 film.

This is really the best approach . My wife is happy to see equipment move from (kitchen, living room, garage) to my dedicated basement darkroom. BTW, two enlargers is just a start, you need to get to 5 or 6, acquired for nearly nothing, before you can choose the 3 or 4 you want to keep.

a basement darkroom should work well in Michigan(cool in the summer and warm in the winter, the water supply is never too far and making it light-tight is not too difficult. I had two in Michigan(Farmington Hills).

Welcome to the group! I just setup my basement darkroom this year as well, loads of fun to be had hiding in the basement. I have found it quite entertaining to hunt for these old darkroom gems at pennies on the dollar, and then use them to make beautiful prints. I also have a darkroom in the north and my subterranean room holds between 18 and 22 deg C throughout the year so keeping B&W chemistry at the ideal temp generally takes very little adjustment.

Hi Danielle - it's great to have you here! I haven't had much luck with folders but I love TLRs - probably have around 20 or so, although only a handful are in good working order. I loved shooting my Yashica Mats for years, and had wanted to collect them all at one point (!), but luckily (or not) finances got in the way. My favourites were always the plain Jane YashicaMat and the Yashica12.

Looking forward to seeing some of your work here!
