Hi all I have not played with film for 25 odd years and felt in need of some pain so I just got delivery of a Sinar P1 kit that seems to be pretty comprehensive. I am having a bit of trouble with the digital shutter though working out what is what and I think there is something broken in there but not to worry I am extremely happy with the condition of the rest of it.
I am looking forward to being a contributing member on here and hopefully the questions will not be too dumb but if they are bear with me, groan a bit and have a laugh.

Hi Michael,
Welcome from a local! You've definitely come to the right place; there's a significant concentration of Australian Large Format Photographers located here in Victoria and they're all incredibly friendly and helpful.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I am in Fish Creek down near the Prom.
I have a massive learning curve coming but funny enough some things are coming back! Good thing I love reading. I am itching to get the shutter worked out and go and shoot some stuff, I don't have a light meter other than an old Westons so thinking of using the dslr in the mean time just to get going.
Once again thanks for the welcome.

Welcome from Victorian who's moved North.

Moved north, Andy? Just a tiny bit of Aussie understatement there, yes?

Michael, in case you haven't found it already, there's an "Australia" specific forum on here as well: (there was a url link here which no longer exists). A tad quiet at the moment, but if you're wanting local information, it's worth poking around and also keeping an eye on it since, once every blue moon or so, meet-ups are organised there. There was a gathering in your area a couple of years ago. The last was up in The Grampians.... and the next (which needs a bit of a jump start) seems to revolve around the boys wanting to race their new Travelwides - I'm not entirely sure of the appropriate venue for such things (Philip Island? Bathurst? Alexandra Speedway) but, sooner or later, there's bound to be a meet-up somewhere within a hundred kilometres or so of you!

Ok so it's not Queensland. It's Michigan and today's top temp is going to be -3degC. Nice!

Once again thanks for the welcomes.
Marc I think I ran into you on the FB page, maybe it was you that suggested here, if so thanks... Lot of reading ahead of me!

Moli, yep thanks found that, after the Sinar was unboxed yesterday I am thinking I will nickname it travelnowhere, man it is is a beast, may have to sort something else out for traveling!

Oxley, whats a hemisphere or 2 between friends.

Darko, the Pub is pretty good isn't it although I think my 5 day hike days are long gone so maybe a casual 100m stroll down the road and it is still good!

Welcome to APUG

All good on the digi shutter, found where it all plugs in and it is actually quite impressive for such an early piece of technology I will still get a lens with a copal though as a back up, I don't trust it that much.

I'm glad to hear you got your shutter sorted. Electronics and digital things can be amazing, but if it's mechanical, one can always resort to giving it a tap with a hammer to fix it! Oh, hang on, I might have that around the wrong way.
At any rate, enjoy your new toy and the fact you live in such a beautiful part of the world within which to use it.
