Hi All,

I've been seriously chasing photography for close to 2 years now (a real veteran..!!) and am totally self taught, here's my portfolio so far -
Dead Link Removed
am hoping to get this printed out like a little fold out business card or something.

Currently I am a DSLR user but am looking at returning to film after too many frustrations with colour and definition in photographs with digital. Digital has allowed me to learn very fast tho...

After I get a couple more lens' I'm looking at getting something like this so i can do all my own touch ups and maybe use slide films..?

I joined this forum to learn more about film and studio gear, hope to talk with you guys more in the future

Doug

Doug, I hope you enjoy your return to film based photography. APUG is the best place to learn and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.

Regards
Glenn

Welcome Doug. What part of New Zealand are you from? I'll be on the South Island in about two weeks, then on the North towards the end of October. I believe we are planning on an APUG get together around Auckland then.

Welcome. We're all willing to corrupt you and make you a film shooter, so ask away with any questions you have. Btw, have you seen Zena or any Hobbit's recently?

Hey all, thanks for the welcome

I'm from Wellington, which is the capital city of this little country!
Haven't seen any hobbits or Xena peeps around but have got many friends who worked on the Lord of the Rings and also King Kong! it's a small country so when good talent is found, they tend to rehire quite quickly!

roteague, good luck for your South Island journey, i've only been to a small part of that island but many of my car club mates have done the full drive and fully recommend it for photography enthusiasts

Hey Detune

there's a few Wellington guys here, are you in the city? I'm by the beach in Titahi Bay.

This is a great forum to learn about film and non digital stuff, lots of friendly helpful people here. Welcome!

Clayton

well, I'm kind of local, out in the hills!! Maungaraki, but work my 'day job' in the city.

Yeah there's a lot of really good stuff on this site, I better hurry up n get myself a film camera again :D

I've been looking at Medium Format but will probably go the Canon 35mm way as I'm running out of money and if I stick with Canon 35mm I can use my L lens'.

Would you guys be able to come up to Auckland on 30 October?
Possibly.........but I'd have to work it around some shooting in the area which is weather dependant.

Hey Mr Detune,

- welcome to APUG - its a damn great resource

I've learned so much and have been here less than a year - only had a medium format about 5 months ago and since then I've built a 4x5 and started pt/pd, cyanotype and gum printing - slowly becoming a tech head

If your into that kinda thing its great - but its also a great community of artists also - looking forward to meeting some

if you cant make AK maybe a Welli get-together ?

have fun,
nick

I'm pretty well open to location. John McCallum is setting this up I think. We were talking about getting together on Saturday night for drinks and meeting up, and doing some shooting on Sunday.

I was actually thinking of heading up to Auckland on the 21st to check out the fashion week stuff. Dont have too much money for travel.. or anything at the mo. When I decided to try a career in photography, i sold my furniture and most other things and moved back home!!

This place is getting pretty crowded with us Wellingtonians now! Welcome though. I'm positive you'll find this place a big help with pretty much anything film related, and I know I'm pleased to see more of us young people turning back to film after playing around with digital for a while.

tehehe, I'm really excited about going back to film!! I'll definitely still be using my dSLR tho, spent too much money on the dam thing to just retire it yet  Time to post up in the 35mm thread

Hi Detune, from another Wellington based photog. There are a few of us here! If any of you want to meet, I am going to be at Photospace (37 Courtney Place) on Saturday for a couple of hours from around 11:30 on Saturday (I have a show hanging).

Be great to meet.

We do have our own section (;

click on the 'Regional Groups' link at the top - then scroll down on the page

Just a theory but it doesn't get noticed as it isn't linked from the forums (as far as I can tell) - I was pointed to it myself after suggesting the same thing

I've had a couple of posts in it that get viewed every now and again - but I cant tell if its by Kiwi's or not (I suspect there maybe a few more of us, just quieter types when it come to posting)
