Hi,
My name's Leo, I'm 24yrs old and recently descovered the passion of B&W Photography.
I've always liked taking photos and last year decided to study a 1yr B&W photography course. The course wasn't that great, though I learnt a lot from self tuition and experimentation.
All in all it taught me the basics and I learnt that Photography was to be a big part of my life.
I'm one of the lucky ones who was giving their kit by a fellow family member. My Cousin Tim Rooke in the UK does the Royal Family Photos. I was lucky to inherit his old equipment (now he's moved onto Digital) comprising of 2 EOS1N bodies, 2 540EZ flash units, 28-200mm lens and a camera bag.
I have since invested in a 50mm lens, tripods, filters, light meter and various other goodies.
I have recently moved to a house by Lake Tarawera in Rotorua, a photographers dream. From my balcony we have views of Mount Tarawera, an amazing landscape! The bush area by the house and in the garden is a haven for birds/insects etc. And the house is full of spiders, dream for me, nightmare for my wife.
In this new house we have a laundry room which is ideal for my darkroom and I am currently in the process of designing it and collecting equipment.
My interests are nature/still life/landscapes/sports. I am an avid mountain biker and would like to get into this field commercially.
I feel B&W suits me perfectly, I've never been a fan of computers, much more practicallly minded and love things that are hands on. I feel B&W photos capture that artistic value that isn't comparable in colour.
I'm looking forward to many hours ahead spent in the darkroom learning new skills and creating masterpieces!
Leo
