Hey everyone. I'm in my late 20s and have been shooting film since I was 15. These days I'm primarily shooting street and landscapes with my Bronica SQ-A and various point and shoots. Just moved to Halifax, NS. Looking forward to learning lots and contributing whatever I know to the forums.

I thought for a minute you lived near my neck of the woods in Halifax Yorkshire but you're in Austrailia but it makes no difference we are all photographers here if it's Halifax Nova Scotia you are very welcome it's nice to have a young member who shoots film.

Nice photos and welcome to Photrio! I've never made it to Halifax, but I hope to visit one of these days (I go back home to Canada once every 2 years). Unfortunately it's almost exactly halfway round the world for me to get there!

Welcome. Not too far from Halifax at Sackville, New Brunswick is the Mount Allison Univ which has an excellent Fine Arts Dept. and a faculty member Thaddeus Holownia who is a superb photographer. If you make a trip to Hopewell Rocks it"s on the way.

Nice to see you here! Halifax is one of the best cities for street photography in Canada. Atleast
Thanks! So far I'm enjoying the city. There definitely seems to be plenty of opportunities for street photography!

Cheers! I lived in Kyoto a few years ago, I know how long of a trip that is...

I'll be sure to keep this in mind as I slowly explore the area. Definitely want to get to New Brunswick eventually.

Welcome! I lived for 6 years in Halifax and did grad school at Dalhousie University. I'm from NB originally but I do miss Halifax. I moved there just prior to Hurricane Juan smashing the south end and knocking down most of the trees in Point Pleasant Park. The park had previously been so well shaded with trees it was almost spooky. Now its pretty open!

Have fun!

Thanks for reminding me how much I'm missing real donairs after moving to BC... (Thankfully King of Donair is apparently opening a location in Victoria 'soon')

Hope you enjoy the community and that you get to create some neat things.

Welcome! I hear there's a lot going on at Sunnyvale that would make for some really fine street photography.

Welcome from another Nova Scotian! I live in Sackville, about a half hour outside of Halifax. The camera repair centre in the North End of Halifax has a ton of old film cameras and lenses if you're ever looking for something new (old) or need something repaired. Atlantic Photo Supply in Halifax or in Burnside, Dartmouth develop film, as does econo copy in Scotia Square (still does 110 format too!). There is also a community darkroom that takes yearly dues but it freshly stocked with chemicals and equipment. I'd have to look up the guys email address though if you're interested. I believe that's in the North End of Halifax as well. NSCAD downtown also has a black and white film photography class that gains you access to their darkroom and automatic processor! You can still buy photo paper there in their craft supply store. That should get you up to speed!

I once saw J-roc walking up Spring Garden Road. Except he wasn't in character. I should have said hi.

Wow- the NS folks are really representing the film community! So cool. I'd love to get back to visit. Obviously a lot of good photo stuff on the go in the Maritimes.

Welcome to APUG Photrio!
I was on APUG but forgot my log-in info. Or perhaps with the merger that old account was deleted? Who knows!

6x6 is the best format. :D

Welcome, from Vancouver!

Welcome, from Hamburg !

If you want good shwarma in Vancouver, Al Basha is the place to go.

Welcome from Germany - you've got a 'trusty name'. Have fun at Photriiio !
Thanks! I've had my SQ-A since I was 16. By far my favorite camera.

Word is Cyrus is back. I won't be heading there anytime soon.

Wow thanks for all the information! I've already popped into Camera Repair Centre and chatted with one of the guys there. Extremely friendly guy!

I actually develop all my own film but am in need of grabbing some HC-110. Will need to see if Atlantic has it. I'm not sure if you or any other local members shoot much slide...but I hand process slide my self and wouldn't mind running other people's rolls as well! Something like $5/roll (135, 120, 220), no cost for push processing (I push lots of my own rolls). Just a thought!

Yeah this is great! Are there any camera swap / sale events or anything of that nature that happens annually?

@zen_zanon I spent ten years at Dalhousie. It's a great school. To get the most out of the experience it really pays to get involved with the societies. You'll meet more people, do more things, have MUCH more fun. Best years of my life were spent at Dalhousie.

As for a camera swap- I haven't heard of any yet. I do know Atlantic Photo Supply gets KEH to come in yearly and they'll buy cameras from you, but as for a swap, I don't know. As for buying chemicals, I know Atlantic Photo Supply doesn't stock it, but might be able to order it in for you.

If you're looking for some obscure part or lens or something for your camera, chances are you'll find it at the camera repair centre. They have like 60 years of bits lying about there. I got an old strap there that had holders for film canisters sewn into it. I haven't seen anything like it on amazon. They have sales on old lenses/cameras every few months, but even their full price isn't expensive.

I don't shoot much slide film myself. I find (looks both ways before saying this) scanning it is kind of tricky to get accurate colours. That is a great price though and I might take you up on your offer in the future.

I worked in Halifax for a couple of years at the tv station -- ATV. It's a beautiful city and I miss it dearly.

I shoot with a Bronica SQ-Ai, as well as the S2A. Just picked up the 40mm lens which is amazing for wide angle stuff. BTW, If you haven't already discovered this, here's a great YouTube channel from a guy who shoots primarily landscapes with his Bronica: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDvq7BPaphEIhBlyDN19rvQ/videos

Cheers,
James
