Hi everyone, I've been shooting for a couple of years now, I'm saving up for a camera, probably a m4/3 body with no lens. Along the way the only DSLR I had, Oly E-410 broke and I haven't been able to buy a new camera yet. I have a Zenit 12xp and I need to buy a couple of batteries for it. I have a couple other Zenits but they aren't in working condition, and I also have a Revue 400L but I hate the unprecise focusing and auto settings. I haven't been shooting film much mainly because I haven't had the money. I'm 17, a student, you know... I'm trying to gather some money for a new digital camera first because I wanted to start filming, and I'm not that rich to shoot on film that much.
When I will be able to afford it, I'll buy the equipment to develop B&W negatives because that's the easiest and the cheapest. I would love to try out C41 as well some day.
I wouldn't really afford printing out of those negatives so I'm asking if It is ok to scan the negatives. I probably won't afford a scanner so could I scan it with a digital camera?
And I just can't get really used to a gallery alongside a forum. I'm too accustomed to just posting the photos off Flickr or something.
Oh, and I really love music, I'm practicing DJing and I'm learning about music theory and playing around with FL Studio and such.
I hope to learn alot here about photography and the analog process, I just love to look at film and prints. A general problem with digital is that no one prints photos that much!
And it would be great If I could have the money for photography but in the meantime I'll just have to read the posts and talk a bit on here.
EDIT: Also, I would love to subscribe for a year but Paypal blocked my account until I'm 18 and that is in March. 24$ isn't that much I'd say.

Welcome to APUG. As a general rule, scanning negatives an uploading QUALITY scans is accepted here on APUG. And it will not cost to get yourself developing your own black and white film.

Good to have you.

Thank you. By the time I start developing B&W I'll probably be subscribed and have a couple of cameras.

My birthday is March 24th as well but I won't be 18 . You can easily afford film with a part time job. If you love it you will find a way.

Yeah, until summer comes I can't really find anything. And I'm not 18 yet. But I will get some batteries for my Zenit and I will shoot a roll or two a month and I will develop them when I can.

Pay a visit to your local $1 store, or the 99c store if you're really skint. If they are anything like the stores round here, they may have a card of assorted watch batteries - The AG12 should power the Zenit without any difficulty. You might even find some rolls of colour film going cheap.

There aren't that many things at our stores in Croatia. and I can buy $1 film, Kodak Gold 800 and pull it to 200 because it's probably expired (there is also some DM Paradies 400 and similar Muller film which are just repackaged Fuji or Kodak, I don't know..) and I can buy Foma and Efke as well but it's not that cheap.
I've searched for what batteries could fit the Zenit and 2x AG12 batteries would do the job. But I can't buy a card of them or I didn't look hard enough.
There's some guy selling them and one store sells them for 2$ a battery! I think I will go for the former.
