hello,
i was just given a pile of stuff from a local photographer that was cleaning out a garage. i got 2 lenses in boards that are from a deardorff 8x10. both lenses are very small maybe 1.5 inches and the other about 1 inch diameter.
the first is a portar 18cm f18 carl zeiss. any info would be great.
the second is a schneider kreuznach weltwinkel anastigmat 18cm f12.5 (the aperture is not working on this one.
any info on these lenses would be great. are they convertible? will they cover 8X10. can i get the aperture repaired on the one?
thanks

eddie

If the Protar is a series V, which I presume it is, that's a very nice little lens. Covers up to 11x14. It's a little hard to use because the image is pretty dark on the ground glass at f/18, but amazing coverage for such a tiny lens. Can't tell you much about the Schneider.

Both lenses cover 8x10" - in fact both lenses will cover 12x16"!

If the Zeiss one is an "original" German one, it will NOT be marked "Series V". Only "Protar f:18", or "Weitwinkel-anastigmat f:18". But it's the same lens. Coverage was rated to 110 degrees when it was made.

I don't know the Schneider one either, but since it's a Weitwinkel-anastigmat f:12.5 it should give at least 100 degrees decent coverage. It could be well worth having the aperture repaired, IMO.
