Help with Hasselbald filters???

At an estate sale I picked up several B50 fliters as I have an older lens that uses them. Looking at the group I found one that says it;s made by Samigon and is marked B50 and DUTO. When viewed by holding to the light it appears to have concentric circles in the lens glass. Does anyone know what this is or might do to an exposure if this were mounted????? Thanks for any help.

It sounds like a softar filter of sorts, meaning it softens the edges of your subject matter.

Probably does not do anything to the exposure of it is clear glass.

Why sure. One aquires one of the sharpest 80mm lenses ever put on a camera; and some cheapo company makes a thing like that which an arteeste can put over it to soften the image.

As you probably already know... many older women and men are self-concoius about their appearance and like to have their portraits "softened"... as do many teenage girls with "less than perfect" complexions. C'mon... get over the "pitchurs have to be sharp to be a pitchur" thinking!

Brian Shaw.. Thanks, I do know after many years about women and men's vanity in photos. I don't expect sharpnes, just wanted to know what this filter was and what it did. The responses suggest this is just a type of softening filter. Thanks for the quick response.

It is, indeed a softening filter. I was reacting to 'anscojohn' smart-alek response. He has an odd sense of humor that make me chuckle!

I'm betting my dinner that you already know how sharp a Hassy 80 is... and if you are over 15 you probably know about vanity, too! The DUTO, by the way, has a slightly different softening effect than a gen-u-ine softar. It's less "fuzzy"; I prefer the duto and would use one if I could only find one in B-60. I'm jealous!

Of course, you are correct. And it is a lot less messy than smearing vaseline on a UV filter.

The DUTO, by the way, has a slightly different softening effect than a gen-u-ine softar. It's less "fuzzy";

Its effect also changes when changing aperture.

That's true, and one of the beauties of a Duto. It performs just like an Imagon or Fujinon SF lens in that respect... adjustable SF rendering.
