Help with artifacts

This is sort of a follow up on my re-washing thread.

Last night I developed some 120, and they all have these tiny streaks on them. I didn't use a wetting agent out of laziness during my final rinse, which is the only thing I did differently then my normal process. I do use a squeegee, and have never had this issue before. The tap water is very hard where I am, so I figured it was mineral deposits that weren't removed, but there was no change after a re-wash with photoflo and no squeegee.

To me, they don't look like scratches from the squeegee, as they are very minute, and not visible with the naked eye. Yes, they're scans, but I also scanned some other slides (c. 1950), and they didn't have the streaks.

So, what do you think they are, and how can I get rid of them?

What film is it? Could it be stains from the water? You can verify this by washing again one of them. If these go away while wet it must be the water.

It's Arista EDU 100 120.

I've done 3 washed on strip with that frame; first was my normal wash (minus PhotoFlo), then I did another wash with running water for about 3 minutes, and then about 1 minute with PhotoFlo, with not much improvement. I then took that strip of 3 frames, and under running water rubbed the negs lightly with my fingers. That made a noticeable difference, so I'm pretty sure now that it's hard water stains.

I'm thinking about getting some distilled water, and soaking the negs for a good while, but bot sure how long I can let them soak without having any detrimental effects on the film. I was thinking anywhere from an hour to overnight for the soaking, but worry that may be too long.

I believe that the Arista film is re branded Fomapan, ny main go to film, and sometimes, not always, Stopbath can cause this problem with Foma films, the emulsion is very soft when wet and sometimes is sensitive to acid stop, I suggest that you use plain water at 20 as a stop, use 3 changes of water,inverting the tank 10 times with each change of water, also, I would never use a film wiper with any film, but especialy with Arista/Foma film, with 120 just hang up after a shake of the reel, the film will dry fine, with 35mm take a sheet of kitchen roll and wipe the shiny side of the film twice, do not touch the emulsion side.

My first thought when seeing that photo was, "those Foma scratches". You might look into that matter.

AgX, those scratches would appear as outright ruts. I don't think this is the issue.

I did have an issue with iron (only with a pyro) and had to mix my working with distilled and wash with distilled. Otherwise I would re-wash.

Calcium carbonate won't dissolve in alkaline water that quick you will need stop bath for five minutes then wash in water + surfactant for five minutes hang and squeegee.

You can use a final soak in deionised + surfactant without a squeegee normally if you want to take more risks with residual CaCO3, a squeegee makes a big difference with hard water.

And never had problems using a squeegee and Foma 120 or 35mm.
