Hi Ilya.

Do you still work at the Toyota dealership ? If so, pop in to see the mechanics and maybe one of them can extract the bits from the shutter? How about your local machine shop if that doesn't work? Short of that, you can ever-so-gently push the manual release yourself. Tough to do but possible. Also, you may try Flutot's shop www.flutotscamerarepair.com/ where they may have a shorter turn around time for you. Good luck !

Cheers - Daniel

Try Dead Link Removed I have bought repair parts from them for Copal shutters. I don't think their inventory is listed on the site, so you may need to email them for the specific part.

The small copal shutters have all the cable-release parts on the outside of the shutter, (a bracket that has a threaded hole to accept a cable release, which presses on the external shutter release), but the Copal 3 only has a threaded hole in the body of the shutter-all the mechanics are inside. Are you saying this threaded hole has dropped out, or become stripped?

It sounds like the cable release broke off inside the cable release socket.

Daniel Grenier- "Short of that, you can ever-so-gently push the manual release yourself. Tough to do but possible"

At a 1/4 or higher no problem , but at a second or half it's bit shaky...and sometimes I need those speeds ...

Just thought someone could have atrci up their sleeve

Thanks again all...

I would suggest you try a genuine locksmith shop.

The amount of times they have to extract broken keys and little bits and pieces from incredibly small holes, is amazing.

They have a very interesting array of, usually personalised, special tools for extracting stuff.

I used to live with a locksmith:D

I happen to have some work done by a local clock master , so I asked him to look at my shutters , THREE minutes later I was back in business...Not only that , but he also had batteries for my Pentax spotmeter ...9 dollars latter I am as happy as a clam ...)))

Thanx all

One more questionand i will be out of your hair.
I have bought those two cable releases from SK Grimmes and they seem to be very brittle ...

Any suggestion on which to buy?

Thanks again...ILYA

OK, so you had cable release "ends" broken off in the cable release sockets (holes) in your shutters. The clock maker was able to back these broken bits out, thus rendering your shutters functional for inserting a fresh cable release? I am guessing that he did not have to disassemble the shutter to do this.

As far as cable releases, there is such a wide variety of releases out there, but they are all made of very cheap materials nowdays. Best to just go to a store where you can look at them.
