I have two Copal 3 shutters in which the cable releases are brocken off, I called SK Grimmes , but they told me that I need to send them in , I can't realy live without them for a month or so... Any suggestions , please
Do you still work at the Toyota dealership ? If so, pop in to see the mechanics and maybe one of them can extract the bits from the shutter? How about your local machine shop if that doesn't work? Short of that, you can ever-so-gently push the manual release yourself. Tough to do but possible. Also, you may try Flutot's shop www.flutotscamerarepair.com/ where they may have a shorter turn around time for you. Good luck !
Try Dead Link Removed I have bought repair parts from them for Copal shutters. I don't think their inventory is listed on the site, so you may need to email them for the specific part.
The small copal shutters have all the cable-release parts on the outside of the shutter, (a bracket that has a threaded hole to accept a cable release, which presses on the external shutter release), but the Copal 3 only has a threaded hole in the body of the shutter-all the mechanics are inside. Are you saying this threaded hole has dropped out, or become stripped?

I happen to have some work done by a local clock master , so I asked him to look at my shutters , THREE minutes later I was back in business...Not only that , but he also had batteries for my Pentax spotmeter ...9 dollars latter I am as happy as a clam ...)))
OK, so you had cable release "ends" broken off in the cable release sockets (holes) in your shutters. The clock maker was able to back these broken bits out, thus rendering your shutters functional for inserting a fresh cable release? I am guessing that he did not have to disassemble the shutter to do this.
As far as cable releases, there is such a wide variety of releases out there, but they are all made of very cheap materials nowdays. Best to just go to a store where you can look at them.
