Hi, I am trying out thr above dev/paper combination for interest. I like the few prints I have done so far, no masterpieces but I do this for fun so no problem.

I am now trying to get a reasonable print from the working print attached but I need help.
- I am using pearl paper, I assume it will never quite look as sharp as gloss - is that right ?

- I have not used any contrast filters, does cooltone tend to be more, less or the same in terms of contrast ? If I use a 3 filter will it be about as contrasty as gloss MG paper with a 3 ?

Any help or adice gratefully received. Cheers CJB

Good Afternoon, Digiconvert,

Generally, glossy paper looks a bit sharper than other surfaces. To me, the Cooltone MG seems to have essentially the same response to contrast filters as does the standard MG.

I find the Cooltone developer to produce slightly more contrast <I>at the same filtration</I> than the other Ilford paper developers I have used (Universal and Multigrade) with MGIV FB paper. It seems to no effect on the paper as far as different levels of contrast filtration goes. I see the same response with any of the Ilford developers listed here.
