I ordered from Calumet a lens shade mounting block for my Calumet C-1 8x10 camera. Jose in the parts dept. is about the nicest person you could ever want to deal with, and he said he found what I needed and would send it to me. UPS came today, and when I opened the package, I was surprised to see something that looked nothing like the mounting block in the pictures I've seen.

Attached is a picture of the assembly that I recieved.

The 2 wire bales are each 8" long with two 1" bends. The thin plate is 1.5" by 6" and has 2 holes and 2 slots. The thick plate is 6" by 1" and has one central hole tapped for 1/4-20 threads, 2 grooves on the far edges with silver clamping screws next to them, and 2 grooves near the center, but on the other side. None of the holes line up between the thin and thick plates.

Does anybody know what this thing is, how it goes together, or if it will even work with my camera?

If it isn't what I need, PM me if you want it.

The larger of the two flat bars is mounted on top of the front standard with the threaded holes toward the outside. The smaller plate is then mounted on top of this plate. The two wires are placed in the slots between the two plates and the lens shade mounts on them. It is then possible to move the shade in and out as needed.

It has been a good many years since I had one of these cameras, but I think the info may help you.

That was my initial thought as well, but it was wrong. The thick bar has one unoccupied hole that is threaded for 1/4-20. The front standard has no corresponding hole, nor any place that one would fit. The thin bar (which looks like the bigger one in the picture) doesn't have any holes that match up with holes on the thick bar, nor any holes that match anything on the camera, so its not possible to clamp the 2 plates together with anything between them or mount it to the camera.

Another problem with the parts at hand that suggests that they are incorrect is the fact that no way I fit them together yields anything remotely stable.

So, there is no way to attach it to the camera, no way to clamp the plates together with the long U-shaped lens hood rod (which I already have) between them, and no way to assemble the 4 parts I have into anything rigid enough for LF use.

I'd say at this point that I'm more on a quest to figure out what this thing is and either return it to Calumet or sell it to someone who wants it.

Any ideas and/or takers?
