Hello!

I messed up and accidently added Part 3 of my c-41 developer (Tetenal ColorTec rapidbath kit) after Part 1 so I mixed it up 1, 3, then 2. Have I screwed up my developer?  I don't know if it matters but in the instructions it has pictograms showing adding part 1 then 2 then 3 to the water and stirring inbetween additions (or during. I'm not sure what the international symbol of a beaker and a stirring rod really means...)

If the solution is clear and oil free then there is no problem, but if you have oil, crystals or dark floating matter, then the developer is ruined.

If it is clear but dark, say darker than tea or like a cola, then it is probably bad.

It's not dark, it's not quite the same colour as before I think... I seem to remember when I mixed it up the first time, part 2 caused part 1 to change a bright colour then part 3 made that more clear. It's not radically differently coloured. I'll check for oil floating around... can't see too well as I tend to do cyanotype coating in the same room (bathroom) so tiny 15watt bulb not so good

Clear, slightly orangey, nothing floating after i poured it into a nice clear plastic jug and went outside to check in sunshine. Yay! Thank you so much, PE

Heather, I too have used Tetenal C41 and can recall the diagrams and order. Unfortunately for your quest for a definite answer I never did it in the wrong order but my guess is that if the correct order was absolutely crucial and the wrong order ruined the developer such that it wouldn't work then Tetenal would warn of this in no uncertain manner otherwise it risks people using it anyway and ruining a film and then probably never using Tetenal again.

I'd be pretty annoyed if the instructions didn't say DO NOT USE if mixed in the wrong order, if this rendered the developer useless. So I don't think Tetenal would risk this.

Best of luck
