Bottom CPE-2 with the magnet is the JOBO I've been using for a few years that has issues with the rotation reverse. And it kind of wobbles the tank as it rotates which I assume isn't a feature. The top CPE-2+ is one that one of my friends picked up at an auction a while back and has never used. I was hoping to try it out and see if it runs better than mine, but it is fitted with a cog instead of a magnet. I was hoping I'd be able to just pop off the magnet and cog and swap them, but the cog doesn't actually come off after undoing the screw.

Is the CPE-2+ here set up for the lift, even though there is no lift? Is it possible to easily convert this back to using a magnet?

Update: I just didn't pull hard enough on the cog to pop it off. But the shafts are different between the two so the magnet doesn't really transfer well.

Either get that shaft issue solved, or upgrade your tandks, by either buying a lid with a cog, or just that cog-insert to mount in one of your lids.

If the newer unit came with a lift you may want to source cog lids and switch.
Otherwise, is the magnet too big or too small? It may be possible to source an adapter sleeve if it's too big. Do you have a way of measuring the shaft precisely?
Contacting Catlabs would be a good idea also, they are probably familiar with the issue and may have whatever part, or a proven fix recommendation.

No lift was included, so I don't think getting a cog lid will do me any good. The old magnet does screw into the tapered shaft, but I don't think there is any contact from the shaft. Hard to get it on while having the magnet be level. And then I think it is just the screw making contact so it feels weak and I wouldn't trust it to not end up damaged after a while. I've sent e-mails trying to source the proper drive magnet.

But with a cog lid you can start immediately using that processor without any hassle. The pure insert costs about 20€. In case you should be able to get it back off the tank this should be even the most economic ad-hoc solution.

I guess I can't see how that insert will connect. The Jobo just has one cog on it with teeth that I assume is for driving the lift mechanism. Every adaptor and cog lid I can find searching google has the same teeth. Is there a different adapter I'm not finding or something I'm not seeing here? This looks like trying to plug the male ends of two power cords into each other to me.

I have never used the magnets; I use the direct cog connection.

The magnets were the original way to couple Jobo's tanks to their processors, introduced in the early 70's.
With the lift the connection of course had to be moved from the base to the cap. They could have designed a magnetic coupling again, but they decided on a pure mechanical one instead.
