help me identify this film

I really don't know if a picture would help, but if you guys think so, I will get one. This is a 120 spool. It says panchromatic in cursive script. The only other marking is made in Belgium. I have no idea what it is. Any ideas?

Could possibly be old Gevaert film (before it merged with Agfa)?
A photo would help narrow down the possibilities.

Could be Gevaert Dandi Pan. I'm looking at a roll thereof right now; the band matches your description, and the backing paper is yellow with "120" and "PANCHROMATIC FILM" printed on it. Metal spool. (I bought a whole box of the stuff for practically nothing on eBay, but unfortunately it's basically unusable: fog, print-through, and the backing paper and emulsion stick together.)

I'm not sure, but I think "made in Belgium" always means Gevaert.

I did some research last night, I was thinking it was Gevaert.

It seems like the various Gevaert films aren't very well documented, either on the packaging or on the web. You may have already found the photo.net thread at http://photo.net/black-and-white-photo-film-processing-forum/00BuCi, which shows a roll substantially identical to mine---that's the most information I've ever found on the subject.

Run it through a camera and see what happens?
