I've taken HP5+ in 120 up as far as EI 12800 with the developer Donald Qualls calls "Super Soup"; I posted the results in the thread at (there was a url link here which no longer exists) . I've gotten results I liked with it using Tri-X as well, but never with careful metering to know what EI I was shooting at---circa 3200-6400. At 12800 the shots with HP5+ were pretty darn grainy, but not worthless (though they probably would have been in 35mm).

I've also done some experiments with pushing Tri-X to 3200 with different developers and techniques. The main thing I learned is that stand development in HC-110 doesn't work too well...but a push of this magnitude in PC-TEA (similar to Xtol 1+2 in its mix of developing agents) can look surprisingly good. I think it's about a tossup, to my eye, between Delta 3200@3200 (HC-110) and Tri-X@3200 (PC-TEA).

But if I were you, I'd do some experiments with this "Super Soup" stuff and see what you think.

OK, I'm with you on this, but *PLEASE* point to a source of flashbulbs.

I get all of my flashbulbs off of eBay. Just do a search every week. I once turned up a case of Sylvania #2B's. Usually the bigger bulb such as GE#22 or Sylvania/Wabash #2 can some times be pricey. Be patient. For bulbs like Press 25 or Press 40 or GE#5 I figure that if I can get them for less than $1 per bulb that it is an ok price. Sometimes you can find some good deals.
