Help Me.... Addicted to Nikon film gear!

I cannot seem to stop buying Nikon 35mm gear. If I see it and it is anywhere near a hundred bucks or less I buy it. Unfortunately I have more than I could ever use in 10 lifetimes.

Look what I added to the collection in February and all the shipments are not in yet. Help meeeeeeeee....

So far the mailman has brought me:

An F3 - an AIS 50 1.4 - a beautiful FE, another FE with databack both mint - a NonAI 50 1.4 - Another F3 with MD-4 - an AIS 18mm f 3.5 - An FE2 in Black with a FREE 17-25 vivitar. Oh an today another F3 and a NON AI 28 f 3.5 that is like nobody ever touch them.

I'm not quite that bad off but am kind of the same way with Minolta gear. SRT 101, 102, 201, 202, 2 X-700's, Maxxum 7000 & 8000i. I do try to use them all on different occasions otherwise my camera bag would be humongous!

A great <$100 lens is a bargain grade 55 3.5 micro. Good for normal shooting, good for macro.

I've built up a variety of Nikon gear over 20 years of use and find most of it works great with digital as well. It's not going to get cheaper either. With the weak dollar, buying new is very expensive, and the used stuff is gaining respect.

I've got the same illness, but for large format stuff. I've stopped buying "stuff" a while to buy myself some film inventory as that is expected to increase in cost with rising silver prices.

Yea - this is JUST february 2011 - you don't want to see the whole lot of them. Oh forgot to mention I mainly shoot Leica M's for 35, Hasselblad for MF and 4x5/5x7 and 8x10 sheet film but at least anything I actually want for MF and 8x10 is nowhere near that magic $100 number rationalization so I don't have piles of it but a good decent stock.

Being a Nikon guy digitally myself, and somewhat inspired by your F3 giveaway, I recently obtained for myself my first "pro" Nikon film SLR: an F4s! (I already have an N5005, but I really hate the cheap-looking plastic body and how the film rewind button is right smack dab in the WRONG place so that it's much too easy to hit it accidentally.)

So if you need to liquidate some of your Nikon collection, feel free to send some lenses my way. ;-)

Already got 1 - had it since the 90's - got a bunch more F3's. F's, F2's FM's, FM2's. FE's, 14mm - 135 f2.0. Hmmm bunch of focus screens - even screens I have no idea what they are for.

Yikes! That is one month's worth? Better go shoot some pix to make that stuff worth the money! That is the reason to buy cameras. I have lots of cameras collected over time, but they all do something for me in use, and that is a lot for one month. The way things are going with the film companies, I'd spend your money on film, or you'll have nothing to put into your cameras some day, perhaps soon!

If you don't yet have a 50-135mm zoom--get one. It is my favorite lens out of my extensive collection. My wife says I have WAY too much Nikon stuff-all analog.

I do my part with consuming film - I just ordered 20 rolls of 35mm TX, 20 rolls of 35 Acros, 20 rolls of 120 TX, 20 rolls of TMX 120, a box of 4x5 TXP, a box of 4x5 E100G, a box of 4x5 velvia, a box of 4x5 portra 400, a box of 4x5 ektar, a box of 8x10 TXP, and a partridge in a pear tree.

It's the 35mm Nikon stuff that kills me - too too much really really nice gear around a hundred bucks. With the Leica and Hasselblad and LF stuff I have the same gear that I have used since the 90's most of which I bought new. Except for of of the the 8x10 deardorffs which I now have two of.

No more wife - she got in the way of my photography and had to go. That was way way more expensive than if I cornered the market on all analog equipment that still exists.

Hey now that is a plan - I am going to by ALL of the nikon stuff, every last thing and then I will control the prices muuuuuhhhhahhhhha.

You know that sounds like a great business. Our target market is people with semi-upset spouses. If we store the gear and they check in/out cameras from their collection it will never seem like they have so much stuff.

You laugh but the manuals do state to exercise the various mechanisms else they get lazy. And not just the Nikon gear either . . . ;-)
