I recently had my bag of camera equipment stolen, including among other more valuable but more common cameras a camera that isn't terribly common, a Vero that I think it was a model C, D, or something similar. (seen on this page http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Vero_Four) While I don't have a serial number I had repaired it myself and it has a number of distinguishing marks I could identify. I would appreciate it if anyone here sees one for sale that they let me know, perhaps I could get one of my cameras back and at best the thief could be caught.
They will accept repair evidence. There was a celebrated case where an ex-owner identified his stolen auto from a custom home made exhaust tail pipe, when it was parked in local street. Although the licence plate & chassis plate number did not match.
The police were interested they just love pro tea leaves.
The plates were from a write off accident damage.
It is as easy to swap base plate serial numbers...
Can you share with us a bit of the circumstances of the theft so we can all learn from the experience and perhaps help prevent something similar? Also where did it occur (city)? In the meantime I'll watch sites online and Craigslist.
Sorry to hear about your theft. Probably the best way to avoid camera theft is not to carry them in a bag. I always have mine on a strap around my neck/shoulder. No spare lenses, no kit. Just the camera and lens I plan on shooting that day. Of course, my cameras are cheap old film cameras, and not really something anyone would steal.
bummer dude. I have one of those cameras (and have had it for more than a year, i swear). If ur desperate for a replacement gimme a jingle, maybe we can talk.
This is why when I travel I stick to the good old swiss army gas mask bag ... doesn't look worth stealing. Considering what even Leicas go for these days, it probably ain't.
