Hi

I have two questions:

I've purchased a non-metered PM prism finder for my 500C/M. However, I'm really struggling to identify whether it's the PM, PM3, or PM5!

There are no markings whatsoever, no serial number anywhere. Only the Hasselblad Sweden logo to the front. No double blue stripes, or distinguishing marks. I'm presuming it's the earliest PM at the moment because of this lack of markings.

It does have a diopter attached to the eyepiece, a 0D/90, which leads me to my second question... I've noticed that the optimal viewing distance for my eye through the diopter is a couple of millimetres away from the eye piece, not completely touching the eye piece. Does this mean I could do with a different diopter, and if so, which would be the recommended?

It’s a PM-45. If it had a meter it would be a PME-45. It needs to be used with a specific screen, I can’t remember which one.

Hi both

Thanks for the prompt reply. So, @John Salim what gives it away? And, is @madNbad correct about having to couple it with a particular screen? (I have the split-image screen).

Thanks

Hi Martin,
I know it won't work with Beattie Intenscreens ( fitted in two of my bodies ). I had a PM-5 to evaluate - looking to replace another older prism, but all I got was a LOT of fall off into the corners.
One other thing to note, if you plan to get a correction dioptre for your eyes, they are very difficult to find and well over priced.

About 2005 I had a 503CX and added a PME-45 finder. I remember having to find the right Accumat screen to work with it. After a little research, the PM5 is x3 magnification and has a fixed diopter eyepiece, needing add on lenses. The PM-45 is x2.5, so less magnification but also less drop off in the corners and has an adjustable diopter eyepiece.

Thanks, @John Salim . Light falloff didn't jump out at me on a cursory test. And yes, those diopters seem very hard to source. I'm not sure if I need one and it was more to do with the surprise of the (lack of) magnification compared to the WLF I'm so used to.

The PME manual has recommended compensation settings to use it with a standard screen. I had a shop recalibrate mine to read correctly with a standard screen. Though at that time acute-matts were much less dear than they are now, I probably should have sprung for the screen instead.
