Hello everyone, I´m new to this forums, but I´m happy to find that there are so many people that is still shooting the old way

I recently bought a Pentax K2 very cheap, but it´s becuase it doesn´t works :D I´m trying to find the cause of the problem: the mirror is stuck up, and the wind lever doesn´t advance. I´m pretty sure that it is a mechanical problem, because the batteries are fresh and the meter works.

I already strip down the camera, but I couldn´t find why it´s jammed, my guess is that is related with the advance lever mechanism... I know is a common problem with the K1000,KM etc but I can´t figure it out since is a different model

Does anyone had the same problem and found a solution?

Thanks in advance for any help

Did you check the gears on the top deck? I have a K1000 with a broken tooth on that gear. It could also be a
loose screw jammed in the gearing.

Is the vertical running shutter completely closed? If not, the mirror will not return and you will not be able to advance the film, as you describe. I have a K2 and a K2DMD, both of which I like a lot but both of which have the same problem of a sticking shutter. This began with erratic speeds but has progressed to the point where the shutter of each is 'parked' half way closed. I've had the K2 checked twice by different camera repairers with no success. My feeling is that somewhere in the shutter is a rubber component that has gone gooey. Batteries make no difference in my case.
I'm debating with myself whether to attempt a repair or whether I like the K2 enough to send it to Eric Hendrickson (I'm in the UK) and pay the bill plus postage both ways. Hmmmm...
Good luck,
Steve

The gears seems to be ok, and there are no loose screws that I can find, but there are some parts with a nasty grease, and some loose foam... I will clean it with lighter fluid and keep searching for the problem

Yes, the shutter is closed. I also have a K2DMD with a sticky shutter, but the K2 seem to have a different problem. Unfortunately I cannot afford to send the camera for a CLA, so if I can´t fix it myself the camera will rest in my camera cemetery

Luckily I have a KM that is working perfectly, is a simple camera so there is less chance that something goes wrong.
