Help! Beseler 23c Dual Dichro Colorhead with Conic Light Integrator & Beseler Stabilizer Power Supply.

Hi, I am trying to decide if I should buy this colorhead, but the Stabilized Power Supply is missing the fuse holder. If you look at the picture of the power supply back panel. You will notice a hole in the upper right. That is where the fuse goes. It's missing the fuse cap. The cap holds the fuse and then makes contact when you screw the fuse cap on. Is this something that is fixable? Should I just buy the colorhead and try to find a part for it? Do I even need the Stabilized Power Supply ?

Should be able to pick up the cap at any hardware store. Whether the head works or not is another question?

Like Erik said- the fuse holder should be easy to get, even if you have to run one externally. IIRC, the cable from the power supply to the head is particular to the power supply and head. And I think the lamp is 82v or something like that so you can’t just plug it into the wall.

Unlike this poor sole who lost the fuse holder cap on a (Italian-made) Durst and tried to find an exact match.

Ok. I mean they are asking for $100 for it, do you think that's fair? If I can get the fuse bit to work, the guy said it works.

It’s a common part so should be no problem finding. Just google fuse holder and youll find it. As to cost that is up to you if it’s worth it. Complete enlargers go from free to very expensive but if you want it offer a price you’re happy with and go on to printing.

First, you're apparently in Ireland and what's reasonable in one geographic area may not be reasonable in another.

Second, "the guy says it works" but without the fuse, neither you nor he really knows.

Third, there is some hardware that may be missing, though not absolutely essential. I don't see the holddown brackets in the photo. Also, and more importantly, there should be an extension for the condenser stage shaft.

Fourth, if it was here in the US, I'd say the price is high. I sold a the later version of that head (with internal power supply) for $50 and thought that was reasonable. I have a complete 23cIII here with colorhead that I'd sell for $150 (you always wanted to visit Minnesota, haven't you).

I have the manual for that colorhead if you want it. I'm sure it's available online.

the cost is average, the dual dichro s averages 100 to 200$ when it comes up.

Then I'll sell my 23cIII colorhead. Far easier to ship than the whole enlarger. And very little market where I am for the entire enlarger.

it all depends on the condition. and if the seller will ship it. I spent 200$ on an intact 23cII and about 60$ on shipping.. at a time when cII models were commonly going for 100$/local pickup in other states, or 200$ with 500$ shipping

Certainly location matters. There are many places in the US (and elsewhere) where the only realistic option to acquire one is having it shipped.

The issue with shipping is finding appropriate boxes. Or building a crate.

I would look for a 23 Variable Contrast black and white head. That unit you are looking at is 45 years old. Beseler color heads are problematic, I have 5, 3 work
