Hello..

Just registered and saying hello. I'm not really into photography myself anymore other than the rare occurrence. I found the forum in the hopes that I am able to sell some of my equipment to someone that would use it more.

I have some equipment that is pretty old and that would be more along the lines of hoping to get it to someone that may just be starting out / new to it.

I know there are some rules regarding that and I have no issue with waiting to post it.

Who know, maybe this will rekindle my interest.

Hi. The rule is that you have to be a paid subscriber to sell your stuff on here.

There don't seem to be a whole lot of forum members from Southern Ontario. So, especially if you want to sell to someone "starting out", Kijiji might be a better place to sell your stuff as a package. Very few people skulking around here are "just starting out".

Oh, I did not see anything regarding that. All I found was the following, which has no mention of paid.

"You must be a Subscriber to post classified ads, subscription information can be found by (there was a url link here which no longer exists) Members are still welcome to browse ads and contact ad owners regarding items."

I have the lenses on Kijiji, but not the camera - as it's an older model which certainly isn't going to be worth the effort of trying to sell it. Then lenses, certainly not in that category.

I preferred a photography forum, as I would expect there is a much great possibility for someone with an actual photography interest to benefit from it rather than someone on Kijii looking to turn it around for a quick buck to take advantage.

Seems I was mistaken.

Sounds like it's digital, then - which you can sell here. Subscriber means "paid member". There are a lot of potential buyers here if you're willing to ship. You'd also get fewer people asking you if you'll sell it for nothing (a problem with Kijiji and Facebook).

Only subscribers can post Classified ads here. If you have a lot of stuff to sell and are willing to ship, it would probably be worth your money to subscribe.

If you're primarily interested in selling to someone for cash and having them pick it up in person, this is probably not the place.

First of all, welcome to Photrio! It's nice to have you on board, and note that we also have some sections dedicated to digital and hybrid workflows. There may be something of interest to you there as well.

What Don said is correct: it takes a paid subscription to post ads. This is mostly to prevent people from (ab)using this for 'hit & run' sales and to keep scammers at bay.

Note that you can always reach out to the moderators or our administrator to discuss possibilities. There are rules, and occasionally there are valid reasons to bend them slightly. Whether this is such a case, I can't say, but who knows?

This forum is predominantly used for information exchange; the classifieds section is a bit of a sideshow, but can be relevant to some. It's pretty lively, so I wouldn't discount the possibility.

Unfortunately, the previous user has made it pretty clear that this is not the type of place that welcomes someone willing to give equipment to someone in the way I mentioned.

I appreciate the response. I was very clear and upfront about the reasoning. Apologies if that was not appropriate - I just wanted to be very forward about it. I have already sent a message to Sean (admin) to remove my account, as I was unable to find a way to do it.

At one time, we did have a "Free Item" classified listing sub-forum that was available to all, including non-subscribers.
And I'm not sure that we intended to remove that possibility when the Classifieds system was upgraded.
So to the OP - simple - I wanted to just express my appreciation for his/her intention, because facilitating the idea of getting things into the hands of those who can appreciate and use them, for free, rather than having them discarded is something that we value.

I wanted to offer half a dozen photo tech books "free for cost of shipping". Weighed each book, printed postal rates, ready to write a post in Classifieds/Free and...

So 15 years member, ads enabled, can't offer free stuff. Am going to send them to a book recycling outfit; free pickup; less hassle for me.

@bernard_L you could have contacted any of the moderators or @Sean and explain you wanted a one-time post in Classifieds to give some stuff away. I'm sure I'm not just speaking for myself in saying that we'd be happy to oblige.
