I just learned of this wonderful site through another online camera group (rangefinder forum) . My first love is large format photography but I also use both medium and 35 mm cameras depending upon what I want to accomplish. I hope to learn a great deal here from fellow film enthusiasts and will gladly share what I have learned to date in 30 plus years of photography.
I am in my 50's and I work as a medical electronics technician for a firm in Tucson,Az. where I have my home. I spend most of my free time chasing the perfect Arizona sunset or well lighted landscape photo but I have been gathering the equiptment required for formal portraits as well.
My first pro job in photography was as a combat photographer with the 25th Infantry Division in Cu Chi,Viet Nam(1969/70).
I later had the opportunity to work with a very good commercial photographer who worked primarily in 4x5' and 8x10" formats. It was with this man (Don Winston) that I learned the difference between the photo journalist who "takes" pictures of events as they occur and the studio photographer who "makes" a photograph starting with a blank slate and builds with light the image desired.
To me there is nothing so satisfying as viewing a well executed large format transparency on a light table.
At any rate. hello to all and I hope to talk with many of you soon.
Welcome welcome. It's nice to have another fifty something around. Your background sounds very intresting, and I look forward to hearing of your various photographic journeys in coming threads.
Welcome from Hawaii. You will find this a very friendly group of photographers. We are having our first conference in May, in Toronto, Canada, if you are interested. Regardless, welcome aboard. BTW, I moved to Hawaii from Phoenix, so I know what you mean about chasing the perfect sunset - I hope you are taking the opportunity to see some of Jack Dykinga's work, you are in his country.
Howdy, AZLF. Where are you located? Speedway & Alvernon here, with two other members within about 2 miles (all with various formats up to 8x10 and one jumping off into 11x14 soon). Sounds like we're being well represented. From time to time we go out to take pictures as a group. Welcome. tim

Hi, AZLF, welcome from the other side of the Atlantic, I'm sure you will find a lot of people on this forum you have a lot in common with, including quite a few fellow Vietnam veterans.
