Hi I'm only a photo hobbyist but would like to get as good as i can, and be comfortable using my gear i have, so that later i can make some good photo's for myself or other friends and family..
I have tried to learn as much as i can but some things i just cant get a gripp of...recently i moved house and new job and the last 2-3 years have not picked up my camera just not found the time, but now settling down a bit.. and hopefully will find time to get stuck back into photography and photoshop etc i do love doing it but can be time consuming for me...

I guess my ultimate aim is to be consistent with my photos and one come close to becoming semi professional although i'm a long way off yet.. My theory is to get pretty good at understanding what i'm trying to do technically then after i have the technical aspect down... I can then use that knowledge to do artistic work which is in my head... having the tech bit i should be able to apply that knowledge to make what i want..That's the idea anyway...As i say at the moment i'm only a hobbyist..

I joined this group hoping the forum could advise me on some things i maybe doing wrong.. And if i can i will help anybody i can of course in turn...
A few years ago I lived in China, and did most of my photography there, but only as a hobbyist..Since then moving back to UK i have done virtually nothing....But now would like to get going again..

Stuff i have done before is here nothing inspiring but i'ts personal taste Flickr account is albums

Welcome to APUG. You'll find a lot of great information here, and a lot of conflicting information as well. There's a wealth of knowledge out there to help teach you the basics- ansel adams' books are a great place to start. There are many youtube videos that can bring you up to speed on how your camera works and provide tutorials (early digitalrev, early "art of photography" videos in particular). Other than that, practice makes perfect. I'm sure others will chime in shortly with other pearls of wisdom for you! Best of luck!

Ok thank you very much...
I just looked at your flickr account photos. They're really quite well done! From the tone of your introduction I got the impression you really were a raw cadet just starting. Maybe you're just being overly critical of your abilities?
