Hi, my name is Rosalind. I'm a brand new film shooter, having learned photography on a digital P&S bridge camera and then a DSLR. But, I don't feel I can really consider myself a photographer - even if only a hobbyist - without having experience shooting film. I also hope to learn how to develop film and make my own prints one day.

This past summer, I was lucky to find a mint condition Canon AE-1 for sale. It came with the FD 50mm f1.4 lens and the 155A Speedlite flash, as well as all original packaging for everything. The seller bought the kit 20+ years ago, but for some reason didn't do anything with it. He wrapped the body and lens in the plastic and re-boxed it, and also boxed up the flash. Everything went up on a closet shelf until I bought it all in July. I say I was lucky because I got the whole kit and caboodle for $35 cash.

I just got the test roll developed last night at Walgreen's, and they came out fine. No light leaks, or anything, AT ALL. I am so excited I can barely stand it! I love the anticipation that comes with having to wait for the film to be developed. That's a level of excitement, to me, that I don't get nearly as much when I shoot with my DSLR.

And, one last thing. I have a question. Am I weird because I like to look at the glass in nice lenses? Like, with the FD 50mm, for example, I just love looking at the pretty glass. If I am weird, it's okay to tell me... I've always marched to my own beat, and I'm used to it by now, LOL.

I'm really looking forward to learning and sharing on APUG!

I've been trying to get a shot of the reflections of LED lights in my telephotos for a while.

Rosalind - hello and welcome to APUG from the Bay State. I imagine there are a lot of photogs here on APUG with a "Glass" fetish!

I think "Glass Fetish" is pretty common here. Don't worry about it.

Glad to see another one from SC. I think were making a comeback down here.

Hello and a warm welcome to APUG! You can get FD lens cheap from KEH.com.

Jeff
I actually am expecting delivery of a Canon FD 70-210mm f4 Macro lens from KEH.com tomorrow. All I need now is a wide angle and my film kit will be complete. I'm hoping Santa will come through, LOL.

Rosalind:

Welcome to APUG! Hope you enjoy it here. Questions are almost always welcome.

A couple of points:

1) you may want to include your location in your profile. Something like "South Carolina, USA" will help the large number of non-USA members here figure out what the heck you are talking about  when you say that you are from the Palmetto State, and will also help you get good answers when you ask questions where your location might be helpful and relevant; and
2) never tempt fate by indicating that once you get just one more lens your film kit will be complete - it doesn't work! (trust me, I and many others here know this to be true:whistling:).

Have fun, and we look forward to hearing and seeing more from you.

Rosalind: Small world! My husband is from Greenville - grew up in the Sans Souci neighborhood and attended college at Furman. We go there every few years to see his sister, who still lives there.

Welcome to APUG! You'll find a heapin' helpin' of hospitality here.

Profile edited! And, you're right about the lenses, as much as I try to be in denial, hehe. At another photography forum I belong to, it's called LBA - Lens Buying Addiction. I have it bad. The only thing that controls it is my fixed income (Lupus did me in). And, I have to admit to having a thing for older cameras. I'm definitely a collector in my heart. I blame it on my daddy. He had the bug, too. I came by this honest, at least, LOL!
