Hello everybody! I'm a native Orcadian (born, raised and live in Orkney) probably makes me a Viking or such...

I've been doing photography for the last 30 years or so, family in-between, studying, working... I'm sure you all know the score. I have put a few images up on the subsciber Gallery page, however I must say the quality of work here is outstanding.

Anyway, great to see your work and I feel privileged to be a part of APUG.

Hello Davy and welcome to Apug. I am sure you will like it here.

Hans

Davey - welcome. You live in my favourite place in the world. You are a lucky man. My aim in life is to one day live on one of the houses off the main street in Stromness with a little jetty into the sea ..... one day.

Welcome from an island at the other end of the country!

Steve.

Welcome to the APUG jungle!:D

And a welcome from a distant relative (?) on the other side of the North Sea!

Welcome! I sailed to Stromness once. We went up north afterwards to go down the Scottish east coast and home to Sweden. I was too frightened of the "grottekvarn" in Pentland Firth to choose that way through.

Welcome from the dead centre of England. Well it feels like that at times:D Ole and matti are almost certainly closer neighbours than those of us South of the Border but are only related when they can point to the Scandanavian whisky distilleries.:D

PS matti. Sensible to avoid the Pentland Firth. A wave there allegedly bent a cruiser's gun barrel prior to the first World War. Others say it was an illusion caused by substituting a ration of "Highland Park" for the normal navy rum!

And another welcome Davy, this time from the (relative!) fleshpots of Inverness. As luck would have these things, I tried to visit the Firth Cameras website only this afternoon and I see that they have stopped trading. I've popped in there a couple of times when I've visited Orkney in the past and he always seemed to have something interesting, but alas no more!

welcome from vancouver and I hope your stay is enjoyable.

Hi Peter,

Yes, sadly the gentleman that ran Firth Cameras passed away a year or two ago.
Thank you for your welcome all the same.

I could point to some of them, but that would make me a few unpleasant enemies. So in the meanwhile let's just say that the best whiskey is made on the other side; and that "Scapa" is one of my absolute favorites. :D

Davy... welcome to APUG from western New England USA. I hope you visit this site often.

Welcome from South Shropshire.

It was a holiday to Orkney 7 years ago that inspired me to load up my camera with black and white film and take up photography seriously again. I remember going to a small camera shop in Finstown which seemed to be in the garage of the owner's house and picking up a red filter and some film.

Like Leon I hope to eventually move to Orkney.

Cheers

Mike
