Hi all.

My name is Dion; and I'm from Durban, South Africa. I've been involved in photography since I was a kid, my father used to do his own B&W photography and I spent a lot of my formative years helping about in the darkroom. My father lost interest in photography as he got older, and I stopped as well. Until just over a year ago when I got my first DSLR.

I have enjoyed my new Canon over the last year, but the desire to get back into a darkroom has been quite strong. I managed to get my hands on an old Voigtlander Vito CL, and then purchased a Kiev 4. I also did a quick repair job on my very old Voigtlander Brilliant f/7.7, though I haven't had a chance to run a roll of film through it yet. My girlfriend and I have shot quite a few rolls Kodak gold, and now it is time to start some more serious B&W photography and get a darkroom up and running.

Hi Dion:

Welcome from California, USA. You will really enjoy APUG.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Not sure when I'll be able to post any images here since I don't have a film scanner and I'm still in the process of repairing my fathers old equipment. I may have to bite the bullet and buy a new/2nd hand enlarger, but we'll see.

Welcome Dion. I love visiting the 'Berg.

Dion

Do you surf? I watched the Endless Summer ll the other day and always wondered just how good the famed Cape St Francis and Jai Bay really are.

BTW, welcome!

Hallo and welcome Dion. I am new myself . I live in Bredasdorp close to the southern tip of Africa .I also got caught in the digital trap, but not completely. For the last five years I have been using my darkroom mainly for lith work, making PC boards . I am a great experimenter and I am now at the same stage as you where I really want to play with some large negatives again . I have three 4x5 cameras and several medium format ones .

Another welcome Dion from New England USA. Good luck with getting your darkroom up and running. You can always take a digi-snap of your prints for posting.
