Hello everyone!

I've been lurking here for awhile now...think it is time to "come into the light" and introduce myself

I have been shooting for awhile. Started with film back in 1984 when that was all we could get. Shot mainly colour with borrowed SLR cameras. I got my own Pentax (you know the ones that can imprint dates onto the negatives?) in the 90s and enjoyed that a lot as it was finally my own. I tried shooting some slides and TMAX leaving all the developing to the lab.

I switched to digital when the Coolpix 990 came out as it was just so much cheaper than shooting film. I was shooting at least 3 rolls per day then as my twin boys were born that year. I have been shooting digital since and went up the stack till I got my D2HS and the holy trinity etc. It did not stop after this as I went after a smaller mirrorless Lumix and then a full frame mirrorless in my Sony A7ii.

The difference is that I got myself a manual lens in the Voigtlander 50mm Nokton. It was a new love affair for slowing down! In the spirit of slowing down, I started exploring how I took pictures. I realised that I was shooting less, thinking more, enjoying the process more. I loved it!

That was when I went back to film...continuing my experiment. Into an FM2, M3, Rollei 35...and into B&W...real (to me) B&W for the very first time...and developing. Started with HP5+ and DDX. My negatives turned out horribly inconsistent. Temperature control was not my strength for sure...and boy is it warm here in Singapore. It is 26-28C even in my air conditioned living room! Eventually I found a method that worked a treat! Semi-stand with HC110...and boy do I love that! It made shooting WAY more fun just knowing how it would turn out.

Now I shoot primarily film, with my OM1+50mm on 135, 500CM+80mm on 120, PTB45+150mm on 4x5. You can see how I have moved seriously into film. My favourite B&W film is FP4+, favourite colour film is EKTAR 100...and have just bought some Velvia 50 to try out.

Kinda long...I know...hopefully gives you a good idea of how little I know about film!

Have a good day everyone!

Interesting story about finding your way back to film again. You have come to the right place but you have been here for over a year so I think you know that by now. Welcome out of the shadows.

Hey Simon!

Hi there! Do you have a gallery I can look at? I'm from Singapore too! Nice to meet you.
