Hello from... Romania

Hello from Bucharest, Romania (I wonder who many of you ever heared of my country). I'm glad to find this forum, because it contains a lot of intrestring information. My name is Ştefan (Shtefan, Steven, Stephen). I'm passioned about fotography since I was a kid. I had some kind of fascination for large format cameras up around the age of 13. In a park from Bucharest it was an old man who had a folding large format camera which he used to take pictures of people who wanted to have a pictures (I don't think he had many customers).
For a lot of time I was only compact cameras. Because "why if you do have everything at a touch of a button to complicate with other things" (meaning make manual set-ups at S.L.R. cameras - my dad had one- my parents are divorced for a long time). That's up untill around year 2002, when I got my 1st more serious camera, a 1961 Soviet made "Zorki" 4... (rangefinder camera); it gave me another view over photography. I did still used for some times the compact camera, because I dind't have a separat flash unit.
The most annoing event with a compact camera and a flash: a museum event, when I took pictures from a few meters away, no much light, so dark pictures... otherwise I did get images.

Currently I don't own any medium or large format camera thah I can use. I do have a box (compact) camera for medium format, but as I sayed, I'm done with film compact cameras.
This is my stroy in short. With one last mention: I do like a lot of things older then me (I'm 38 years, 1 month and 3 days old).

Hello Stefan and welcome to Photrio. Yes, many of us are well aware of Romania. Especially for us who followed the Olympics over the years. In 1976 in Montreal, Romanian athlete Nadia Comaneci became the first gymnast in Olympic history to be awarded the perfect score of 10.0 for her performance on the uneven bars.

Salut Stefan, Welcome to Photrio community.

I had the pleasure of visiting Romania to attend a wedding in 2019 with my wife. The church was in Bucharest, but the reception was about 1 hour north (I think) of Bucharest, at a TV/film studio location with sound stages...perhaps you might know of this place and its location?...I never heard the name of the reception location or the town name, as we were driven by bus from the church to the wedding reception, and back. Spectacular ...much fireworks at midnight, two animals roasted on spit over open fire. One of our in-laws was godfather of the father of the bride, so we enjoyed royal treatment from he and his wife, the owners of Jidvei vineyard and winery.
While in Romania, we stayed in Brasov for a couple of days, and toured the Bran castle. We would like to see more of Romania, especially with a native who can show us the proper ways to eat the delicious foods (meals over many hours!)

One hour North of Bucharest and tv studio. I can think only of Ploieşti, the "capital" of one of 3 bigs of the South (as I call Bucharest, Ilfov County and Prahova County), Prahova County. It was avarage size or a citadel?

Polite and helpful. I like that. I'm feeling bad because of bad atitude from a Romanian facebook group dedicated to printing. On facebook you find bad atitudes, but there 99,9% of people seem to be bad.

Welcome Ştefan! Romania has been high on my places to visit and I had originally planned to go there this summer, but due to the pandemic it’ll probably be pushed back a year or two.

Welcome Ştefan, many of us started with simple cameras, I’ve only made it up to 4X5, maybe someday I’ll get an 8X10. I almost got to go to Romania on business several years ago. I was quite disappointed when the deal fell through, hopefully someday I make it there. It’s a long way from Seattle but I’m sure it would be worth the trip.

Yes I know where Romania is because my brother-in-- law is from there. He and his family managed to escape from there and across Europe and and ended up in Canada with his family intact. All nine of them. He was only three or four at the time but he and his brothers, sisters and parents managed to make to safety.

Thought it might been there. But one hour... that slow, considering is not very far from the city. Probably extremly bad traffic.

I wonder how hard is in your country to find exotic photo stuff, like flashbulbs and floodlight (Nitraphot) bulbs... here in Romania is very hard and they have prices...

Welcome, Ştefan! We traveled through Romania 3 years back... Bucharest, Sibiu, Timisuara, Cluj, Baia Mare, Brasov, Transsylvania... A fascinating country, and very nice people!
