Hi there all,
Thought it was about time to introduce myself -
I've been reading the posts at APUG for a while now, since I switched from digital to mostly film photography. I have learnt so much and now dev my own films and mix my own chemistry from raw. I use 35mm & 120 and am messing with a (pretty much bargain basement) collection of classic cameras, about 30 at the last count - I CANNOT pass a £5 bargain in a charity shop.
I do have a couple of slightly posher cameras: a Bronica EtrSi and a Nikon F90x which are my workhorses though the ones I use most are probably an Olympus Mju 1 and a Voigtlander Vito B as I've always got one of them on me. Prints are inkjet at the moment with plans to start contact printing at some point and if I ever get enough room I'd like to set up a darkroom.
Hopefully I've learned enough to be able to contribute and give something back to the community which has given me so much (even though you didn't know I was lurking).
Favourite photographers at the moment:
Barry Thornton (I have tracked down both Edge of Darkness and Elements - love everything about these books).
Saul Leiter: though I only have Early Colour.
Cartier-Bresson (the first photographer I found and I'm still not over it), Walker Evans, Atget, Gordon Parks, Henry Wessel and on and on...
And John Szarkovski's 'Photographs' - I really do like his own photos, one of my favourite books as the reproduction is so good.
Also Roger Hicks' & Francis Schultz's Quality In Photography which I have read again and again. Hopefully some of it has sunk in.
It's a fantastic time to do photography - the info is out there on the net and so much equipment is available at such low prices - I am loving it!
Any way there you have it. I'm off today so going out to shoot 2 rolls of Pan F 120 to then develop one in Rodinal (which I don't make from raw as it's so cheap) and another in home made microdol/perceptol-ish to see for myself the differences.
Unfinished (1 image and an empty blog - oh dear, must try harder) website at www.boxbrownie.net
Cheers,
Steve B

Hello from just across the water and along a bit from you.

That would describe me as well!

Hello Steve!

Maybe you can set up a temporary darkroom in the bathroom? It has worked for me for seventeen years.

Another greeting from the former colonies. I lived in Rustington and Littlehampton in the early 70's and had many a night I don't really remember in Brighton.

I CANNOT pass a £5 bargain in a charity shop.

Also Roger Hicks' & Francis Schultz's Quality In Photography

Know the problem. Visitors to my house are invited to come in, shift a few cameras and sit down.

I haven't read Quality in Photography (some would say that's apparent from the garbage I produce!) but the half dozen books by Roger and Francis that I have read have all been well written, informative and entertaining.

welcome to APUG!

Finally about to do it. Got an enlarger today (no lens for it yet though). So my bathroom darkroom is almost realised.

I'd like to say a warm welcome too (from East Anglia)
One of my favourite pictures was taken in (or very near) Brighton by Bill Brandt
http://fineart.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=5020&Lot_No=75191

Brandt and Brassai were two of my favourite photographers when I first started photography and they're two I often come back to for inspiration.
