Hello! Film newbie here. I'm looking to learn "real" photography and have been having a blast learning about film camera techniques (such as the Zone System) and darkroom workflows (film processing, printing, enlarging, etc.). In my online research (aka Google) I kept coming upon great discussions hosted on APUG so I figure I should join in. Needless to say, I'm glad this website exists and I'm thrilled to join a community of avid film enthusiasts!

Welcome to APUG

Welcome aboard. It's a wonderful site for everything. Watch out for the classifieds. There are wonderful things that pop up on the radar.

Thanks for the tip, Todd. Am I generally better off shopping on APUG for gear than on eBay? Some of those Japanese camera stores are making me drool on my keyboard.

Welcome to APUG Photic Visions! Those Japanese camera stores make me drool too...

Speaking only for myself, I've never had a problem here. It's community and small compared to the world as a whole
so there's a strong incentive to play by the rules.
Like anywhere else you may find some optimistic pricing but on the whole it's very good. Considering the lack
of fees and minimal donations that run the site, a seller is already ahead of the game bypassing the bay.

I have a feeling Sean's not getting rich maintaining the site.

Welcome to the asylum, Photic Visions!

Better than eBay? Definitely.
I have gotten and sold, not the same item, some great and hard to find equipment at the APUG classifieds. If you go to Support Us! and select the Amazon button some residual comes back to support APUG.

Photic... hello and welcome to APUG!!

Nobody here knows what they're talking about! LOL.

APUG is such a great source of knowledge...some of it passed on gently, other times
like taking a sip of water through a fire hose. Enjoy.

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone. I'm looking forward to bargain-hunting on APUG, as I'd rather buy from a kindred spirit than a total stranger, all else being equal. My weapon of choice is an OM-1 so I'm happy to see that one of the larger APUG groups is the Olympus OM Cult. I look forward to tapping into that fount of knowledge as soon as I'm allowed to post.

Hello and happy APUGging!

Thanks again for the welcome messages, everyone. I do have a question, however. I've joined a group and would like to participate in group discussions, but I don't see how I can start a new thread or post a reply in an existing thread. Do I have to have a certain minimum reputation before I am allowed to post in group discussions, or do I have to be a subscriber? Sorry if this is a FAQ but I've looked seemingly all over and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
